BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot Broncos and the Snake River Panthers opened their 2012 softball season on Friday afternoon under a bright sunny sky and balmy temperatures for spring softball in Southeastern Idaho.
At the end of the day it was the visiting Panthers who emerged victorious as they held off a seventh inning rally by the Broncos for the 7-6 non-conference win.
NAMPA â€” The Snake River Panthers came up just short in their bid for a 3A boys state basketball championship on Saturday afternoon as the defending champion Fruitland Grizzlies were able to hold off the Panthers by a 57-51 tally.
"Fruitland needs to be congratulated," Snake River head coach Robert Coombs said. "They are a good team, made plays and did a good job of controlling the tempo on us."
MERIDIAN â€“ The Snake River Panthers rode the broad shoulders of Jacoby Johnson and his 25 point performance to a 56-49 semi final victory over the Weiser Wolverines on Friday night.
â€śI thought that I had a bad game on Thursday night and I just wanted to come out and play like I know that I can,â€ť Johnson said. â€śI took the advice of my coaches and just took the ball to the hole. My teammates did a great job of giving me great passes and with teammates like I have its pretty easy.â€ť

Snake River advances to the 3A state championship game with a 56-49 win over Weiser.
The Panthers re-take the lead over Weiser, 40-35 after the third quarter.
Snake River only scores one basket in the second quarter and Weiser takes a 25-22 lead at halftime.
Snake River leads 18-15 after the first quarter.
Firth Cougars vs Cole Valley Chargers
(Winner faces Kamiah at 1:40 p.m. Saturday for state championship)
Cole Valley sends Firth to the third place game 66-54.
MERIDIAN â€“ The Snake River Panthers got 16 points from senior Shane Parkinson and a double-double by Jacoby Johnson with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Panthers advanced to the 3A state semi finals with a heart stopping 48-43 overtime victory over the Filer Wildcats.

Firth survives 58-56 against Soda Springs.
Firth heads to overtime tied 52-52 with Soda Springs.
Firth leads 45-37 after the third quarter.
The score is tied at 27-27 at the half.
Firth ends the quarter on a 12-0 run for a 20-16 lead.

POCATELLO â€” Day one of the Idaho State Wrestling Championships are in the books and after a long day on the mats, 21 of the Counties 58 wrestlers remain alive in the two day battle royal.
Of the 21 remaining wrestlers, 12 of those remain unbeaten and will be looking for the top spot on their respective medal podiums early this evening.
POCATELLO â€” The Snake River Panthers got 24 points from senior guard Shane Parkinson and they knocked down an impressive 24 of 34 free throw attempts as they captured the fifth district championship with a hard fought 62-50 victory over the Bears of Bear Lake on Wednesday evening.
After a couple of nervous moments to begin the game, Snake River settled in nicely as they opened a 16-11 first quarter lead.
