Firth topples Malad, 33-26, in Class 2A football playoffs

POCATELLO – The Firth Cougar football program took a huge step back to where it has historically been on Thursday evening as it knocked off the Malad Dragons 33-26 in the first round of the 2A state football playoffs.
Mitch Orme led the way for a Cougar team that was looking to exact a little bit of payback on the Dragons from a heartbreaking two-point loss two months ago.
Orme was fantastic as he accounted for three touchdowns for the Cougars, a pair rushing and another through the air as he amassed 102 yards on the ground and 83 through the air.

Snake River downs South Fremont in first round of Class 3A playofs

POCATELLO – Led by Wyatt Wray’s four touchdown passes, Snake River knocked off South Fremont for the second time this season on Thursday, advancing to the next round of the Class 3A state football playoffs with a 34-23 victory at Idaho State’s Holt Arena.

MIDDLETON — The Blackfoot Broncos accomplished their lofty goal on Saturday evening as they blanked a very talented Caldwell team 3-0 for their first ever state soccer championship.
"The standard has been raised. The first state championship for a Blackfoot team, that's the new standard now," Blackfoot head coach Liam Pope said. "To win a state championship, it is just brilliant and it sets a new precedence for Blackfoot soccer."

Panthers capture first boys state soccer title

CALDWELL – History was made on Saturday afternoon as the Snake River Panther soccer squad capped off their monumental run through the 3A State Soccer Championship Tournament with a dominating 5-0 victory over the Redskins of Teton.
“This is just indescribable for me,” Snake River head coach Trevor Peterson said. “To have played for three years as a player for Snake River and then to be fortunate enough to coach these guys and help build this program just leaves me a little speechless.”

SHELLEY — For those in the stands at Shelley High School on Friday night to see the Russets take on the visiting Bees of Bonneville, you were treated to one of the best games of the year as Shelley scored late to complete a comeback from 12 points down and nip Bonneville 41 – 40.

Blackfoot eases past Hillcrest, 38-22

AMMON — Blackfoot overcame a slow start and used a strong second half to down Hillcrest, 38-22 at
Thunder Stadium Friday night. The Broncos celebrated with their District Six championship trophy that was presented to the team after the game.
At the start of the game, after Hillcrest attempted an on-side kick, Blackfoot recovered the ball on its own 43-yard line.
Then with 9:43 on the clock quarterback Trae Pilster threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Colby Pearson. Pearson then ran the ball for a two-point conversion.

Snake River runs all over American Falls, 70-7

THOMAS — Snake River coach Jeff Dalley didn't know what to make of the Panthers' 70-7 beat-down of American Falls in South East Idaho Conference football action on Friday.
"I never would have expected it," Dalley said. "I really thought it would be a slugfest."

Bartolo hat trick lifts Broncos into state title game

CALDWELL – The Blackfoot Broncos rode the right foot of senior Gerardo Bartolo all the way into the 4A State Soccer Championship game. The talented striker knocked in not one, not two, but all three Blackfoot goals in a hard fought 3-2 victory over Skyview on Friday afternoon at Caldwell High School.
“Right from the beginning of the game you could tell that we were all focused and ready to go,” Bartolo said. “We want to win a championship so badly and we came out attacking, attacking and just taking the game to them. To get three goals, my senior year, well that feels amazing.”
