broncos sharp in 11-5 win over Panthers

BLACKFOOT — The traditional Blackfoot-Snake River rivalry was renewed on Wednesday afternoon as the Broncos and the Panthers squared off on the diamond for a good old fashioned baseball game at Blackfoot High School.
At the end of the day, Blackfoot emerged triumphant with a 11-5 victory as they begin the season by winning the debut for new head coach Kenny Dahle.
"We are just excited to be outside," coach Dahle said. "We were out here at 9 A.M. breaking up ice and frozen diamond dust down the third base line and we are just excited to get the season started."

Snake River opens season with 9-2 win over Teton

THOMAS — The season opener for the Snake River baseball team went about as good as one could have expected on Friday afternoon.
Squaring off with 6th district Teton, the Panthers got solid pitching, even better defense and more than enough hits in a 9-2 win.
"First time out I think that we played good and really it was just good to get out on the field," Snake River head coach James Carter said. "We had some kids make some great defensive plays. Cody Dean made some great plays at third and all in all it was a great way to start."

Bronco tennis opens season

POCATELLO — It was a pretty good opening day on the tennis courts for the Blackfoot tennis team as they tangled with a pair of state title contenders at Century High School for the season opener.
The Blackfoot boys turned in fine opening performance, winning their duel with Century 4-3 before falling 3-4 to Wood River in the night cap.
The girls fell in the team total in both of their matches, 2-5 to Century and 3-4 to Wood River.

Snake River holds off Kimberly in first round

MERIDIAN – The Snake River Panthers opened a double-digit lead and then held off a hard charging Kimberly squad for an opening round, 55-52 win at the State Basketball Championships in Meridian on Thursday afternoon.
“I thought that the rebounds and the fast break early in the game got us off to a good start,” Snake River head coach Bob Coombs said. “Overall we did some nice things in tonight’s ball game.”
The Panthers came out of the gates with a high energy performance, collecting 21 rebounds in the first half, 9 of those on the offensive end as the Panthers built a 11-point bulge.

Panthers capture 3A state title

NAMPA — For the next year, the Snake River Panther wrestling team will be announced as the 3A state champions. This hard earned and well deserved title was awarded to the Panthers on Saturday evening as the Panthers came together as a team, at just the right moment, to capture their first state title in over a decade, outdistancing second place Bonners Ferry 165 to 151.5.

Broncos finish 2nd in 4A standings

NAMPA — There was some fabulous wrestling on display over the three day Idaho State Championship wrestling tournament held at the Idaho Center in Nampa.
At the end of the tournament, Bingham County came home with a bucket full of medals, 28 to be exact, two of those the gold variety as Skylerr Valentine of Snake River and Chase Call of Shelley each stood atop the podium for their respective weight classes and classifications.

POCATELLO - Recent history pointed to a tough game for the Snake River Panthers as they prepared to take on the Bear Lake Bears Thursday night in an elimination game of the District 5 3A tournament. After all, Bear Lake had dominated the Panthers and the other teams in the fifth district all season, but that is why they play the games this time of year.

Trojans run past Russets

RIGBY — The Shelley Russets inaugural season in the 4A High Country Conference came to an end on Thursday night as the Rigby Trojans raced past the Russets for a 78-58 victory.
"We started the game well but even then you just didn't sense that spirit which is understandable because of the heartbreaker that we suffered on Tuesday," Shelley head coach Dave Hadley said. "We just didn't realize the urgency and once Rigby got a little lead they were able to get real aggressive and then you could just sense us tensing up."

Cougars capture fifth straight district title

ST. ANTHONY — With three minutes remaining in the 2A Nuclear Conference boys basketball championship game, Butte County emptied their bench in a sign of defeat. Moments later the four time defending champion Firth Cougars did the same and after a few scruffy moments, the buzzer sounded on a 56-29 Cougar victory as Firth celebrated their fifth straight district title.

Panthers stay alive with win over Beavers

POCATELLO - It is often said that offense is for the highlight reels and defense wins games. The Snake River Panthers turned on the defense Tuesday night as they completely dominated the American Falls Beavers in District 5 basketball tournament action 57-38.
