Broncos open 2011 with win over Grizz

IDAHO FALLS — The Blackfoot Bronco's weathered a physical start with the Skyline Grizzlies on Friday afternoon and the got a hat trick from Carlos Flores who scored three second half goals as the Broncos began their 2011 season with a 3-0 victory.

Amazing McCoy wins first annual Wiley Petersen

FORT HALL — Oklahoma cowboy Cord McCoy has been around the world twice as a contestant on the Amazing Race but on Wednesday evening, he was one of fifty professional bull riders who took to the Fort Hall rodeo arena in the first annual Wiley Petersen Invitational.
When the dust had settled a capacity crowd applauded McCoy as he stood triumphant after capturing an event that is sure to become a regular stop on the Professional Bull Riders tour.

Broncos conduct football camp for younger set

BLACKFOOT – Moo-Donna has her new home. The 2011 EISF mascot stretches about six feet from ear to ear and now looks down from her post atop the billboard near the east entrance of the fairgrounds.
Chad Hammond with I.E. Productions said the Eastern Idaho State Fair's three-dimensional billboards are the only of their kind appearing in the state. There are two similar EISF billboards on I-15 and another large Moo-Donna will be placed on the back of the grandstands this year.
"I think it is the coolest welcome to the fair we've ever had," said Hammond.
The EISF runs Sept 3-10.

Giannini captures 3rd at National Rodeo

BLACKFOOT — With spurs jingling and the flash of a shiny new belt buckle, Blackfoot cowboy Colby Giannini retells his exploits at the recently completed National Finals High School Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming where the soon to be senior captured third place in the cow cutting event.
"It was a really good time," Giannini said. "I had my buddies there, Stetson Jorgenson also qualified for Nationals so I was able to hang out all week. This was definitely the high light of my summer."

Broncos salvage split with Green Sox

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Broncos faced off with a talented Burley Green Sox squad on Friday afternoon and at the end of the day the Broncos emerged with a split for their efforts but dropping game one 12-5 and then rebounding for a solid 7-6 win in the nightcap.
"Burley is a good team, they are undefeated in their district so to get a split with them is pretty good," Blackfoot head coach Jeff Katseanes said.
In the first game Blackfoot succumbed to some shaky defense in the field as the Green Sox took advantage of five Bronco errors.

Chukars aren't afraid of no Ghosts

IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Falls starting pitcher Robert Penny showed that he's not afraid of no Ghosts as the North Carolina native turned in his best performance of the young season, working seven innings of three hit baseball, to help lift the Chukars to their third straight victory with an 8-4 win over Casper on Wednesday evening.

Broncos split slugfest with Cowboys

BLACKFOOT- In the bottom of the fourth inning of game one with the Twin Falls Cowboys, the bases were loaded and Blackfoot’s Cole Mansanerez stepped up to the plate and hit a towering grand slam over the left field fence to pull the Broncos to within 8-7.
“I was practicing in the cage before the game and it felt good so I knew that today was going to be a good day,” Mansanarez said.

Twice as Nice, Tarkon wins Von Elm

BLACKFOOT — Last years defending champion Steve Tarkon is going pro. He has stated this on many occasions and local golfers would like nothing better than to see the spry young 24 year old pack his bags and head out onto the professional tour because over the weekend, Tarkon successfully defended his Von Elm championship by firing a two day total 139 en route to the 2011 title.

Sixth distict squeezes out victory over Fifth in annual All-Star game

BLACKFOOT — With the sixth district All-Stars clinging to a 24-17 lead with :02.2 showing on the clock the fifth district squad drew up their best play from the five yard line.
With a five receiver set Snake River signal caller C.J. Toulouse scanned the defense when the ball was snapped wide leading to a wild scramble for the ball. Toulouse got to the ball first, rolled to the right and lofted the ball towards an open receiver in the north end zone, only to see the ball batted away at the last second as the game ended with the sixth district victorious.

Knights tame Broncos

BLACKFOOT — Mother Nature showed her bi-polar personality on Wednesday afternoon and the Blackfoot Broncos were swept by Hillcrest as they battled the elements and the Knights falling 10-6 in the opener and then dropped the nightcap 8-6 in eight innings.
"It was a difficult day today," Blackfoot head coach Jeff Katseanes said. "We had our chances, especially there in the second game but we just didn't close it out."
