Lady Panthers pull away from Lady Redskins

THOMAS - The Snake River Lady Panthers weathered a slow offensive start to down the visiting Teton Lady Redskins in A2 action Tuesday evening by a final score of 44-28.
"We seemed to lack some offensive intensity in the first half and missed some easy opportunities," said Coach Steve Morton. "We made some adjustments at half time and rode our strong defense to the win tonight."

Hillcrest wallops Shelley

SHELLEY — There have been many Hillcrest/Shelley basketball games over the years but on Tuesday night, that rivalry took on added meaning as the Russets opened their 4A High Country Conference season with a showdown with the Knights.
After an uncharacteristic game of basketball, Hillcrest emerged triumphant by handing the Russets a bitterly disappointing 69-46 loss.

Snake River rolls Firth

THOMAS - Playing for the third time in four days, the Snake River Lady Panthers welcomed a cross county opponent in the Firth Lady Cougars to the 'Panther Lair' and proved to be a rude host, handing the Lady Cougars a 36-17.
"We came in worried a bit about the mental fatigue of playing three games in four days, but the girls handled themselves very well tonight," said Snake River Coach Steve Morton. "We played great pressure defense and concentrated on running our sets with discipline and we were pleased with the effort of everyone."

Lady Grizzlies nip Lady Broncos

BLACKFOOT — It was a home game for the Blackfoot Lady Bronco basketball team but it felt as if they were on the road from a statistical perspective as the visiting Skyline squad shot 28 free throws, compared to 4 for Blackfoot, in a 39-34 defeat at the hands of the Lady Grizzlies.
"Well, it was a much closer game," Blackfoot head coach Mike Kirkham said. "Bottom line is that the kids want to win and they are really trying. I haven't seen any of them giving up and as long as they'll continue with that attitude, things will have to get better."

Panthers slay Dragons

THOMAS — Snake River unveiled their basketball team on Thursday night and what a sight it was for the home crowd as the Panthers looked to be in mid season form with a 78-44 shellacking of the Malad Dragons.
"These kids are so unselfish," Snake River head coach Bob Coombs said. "I was really pleased with everybody tonight. It was a good start, I'm excited."

Bronco comeback comes up short

IDAHO FALLS — The Blackfoot Bronco basketball team opened their 2010-11 campaign on Wednesday evening, traveling north up I-15 to tangle with the 5A Tigers of Idaho Falls.
At the end of the night, the home standing Tigers held off a furious fourth quarter rally by the Broncos by hitting 18 of 22 free throw attempts in the stanza, handing the Broncos a 76-62 loss.

Lady Panthers take round one 32-23

THOMAS — A long standing rivalry was renewed on Tuesday evening as the Blackfoot Lady Broncos traveled to Snake River to tangle with the Lady Panthers on the hard wood.
In a game that was as physical as any seen in recent memory the Lady Panthers rode the broad shoulders of Eden Van Orden to a 32-23 win, taking the first round in the season match up.

BOISE — The Blackfoot Bronco drive for a second straight state title came to an end on Saturday afternoon, unfortunately for the Broncos and their fans, the mission came up just short with a 41-28 defeat at the hands of the Bishop Kelly Knights.

Fruitland runs past Snake River, 42-14

BOISE — In a classic game of David vs Goliath the Snake River Panthers squared off with the top ranked an undefeated Fruitland Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon.
At the end of a rather physical contest, the Grizzlies proved without a shadow of a doubt that they are the top team in the 3A ranks, holding back the Panthers with a 42-14 victory.

Lady Tigers take a bite out of Lady Broncos

IDAHO FALLS — For the second time this week the Blackfoot Lady Broncos faced off with a 5A foe on the hardwood, this time at Idaho Falls were the Lady Tigers were equal to the task, sending Blackfoot packing with a 62-38 victory.
"There were times during that ball game that if we make our free throws and stop their offensive rebounds we are there, we are that close," Blackfoot head coach Mike Kirkham said. "I know it doesn't seem like that or look like it we just need to realize that we are close. I don't think that they have stopped playing hard though."
