Lady Broncos roll over Lady Knights 15-4

IDAHO FALLS- The Blackfoot Lady Broncos softball had another big win, when they faced off against the Hillcrest Knights. With the ten run rule in place Blackfoot took the win 15-4.
Two key hitters in the game were both seniors with Miraya Castaneda and Ally Smith. Castaneda started her game with a double, which was shortly followed by a three run dinger. But she wasn’t finished there, she also hit a triple and gained six RBIs for the night. Smith couldn’t let Castaneda have all the fun as she connected with a home run as well.

Broncos oh, so close in 4-3 eighth inning loss to Bees

IDAHO FALLS — The Blackfoot Broncos took the top seeded Bonneville Bees as far as the Bees could stretch on Monday afternoon but in the end, the Broncos came up just short as they fell 4-3 in eight innings to the heavily favored Bees.
“I think that they did great today. We took them into extra innings,” Blackfoot’s head coach Kenny Dahle said, “ I am proud of how they played. We haven’t been in a game like this all season.”

Lady Bears force second title game with Lady Panthers

ARIMO — The Snake River Lady Panthers had their opportunity to close out the 3A fifth district tournament on Monday afternoon but standing in their way was a very hot Bear Lake team that was riding the wave of momentum from their upset victory over the top seeded Marsh Valley squad in the game just previous.
That wave of momentum came crashing down on the Lady Panthers as the Lady Bears pounded out 15 hits in a 10-4 win over Snake River to force a second championship game today.

Moreland man completes doctorate in physical therapy

Brandon Hawker, 35, of Moreland received his doctorate degree in physical therapy over the weekend; a goal that he has been working towards for several years.
“I went back to ISU in 2007 to finish my bachelor’s degree in exercise science, and was fortunate to get right into the doctor of physical therapy program at ISU in 2009 which took an additional three years of intense schooling to complete,” said Hawker.

12 retire from Blackfoot School District

Twelve employees will retire from the Blackfoot School District at the end of the school year.
The people retiring and the number of years they have taught in the Blackfoot School District are Cherie Clawson 8 years, Kathy Crane 19 years, Scott Crane 27 years, Frankie Creasey 6 years, Valaree Estep 18 years, Ruth Hanson 17 years, Linda Plewa 28 years.
Charles Riddle 28 years, Karen Seely 34 years, Julia Dee Starr 8 years, Diane Tauscher 30 years and Sue Thomas 4 years.
Their combined experience totals 227 years of service to the district.

Blackfoot businesses are going to pot!!! Actually, no, it's quite the opposite...'the pot' is going to Blackfoot businesses!
It's all part of a creative fundraiser for this year's Bingham County 'Relay For Life' - instigated by team 'Fishing For A Cure.' Chances are, you could 'get flushed' and end up with a bright, purple commode on the front steps of your home or business - complete with a Baby Ruth candy bar in the toilet bowl - and you'll have to pay to have it removed!!

STOLEN JACKET FOUND: April 23, 8:05 p.m.: A man said his daughter's jacket was stolen a few months ago and said he said another girl wearing the jacket today.

GANG ACTIVITY: April 24, 7:42 a.m.: A man said some gangsters took the camera down at his residence. He said they are outside his door right now but he cannot answer the door because he is barricaded inside.

SHOPLIFTING: April 24, 4:18 p.m.: A caller at the Cal Store said they have someone detained for shoplifting.

Blackfoot Elks distribute scholarships

BLACKFOOT — Twenty-four students in the third through eighth grades and from Arco, Aberdeen, Blackfoot, Mackay and Shelley received awards ranging from $30-$75 from Elks Lodge No. 1416 not only for their scholastic achievements but for who they are becoming as citizens on Thursday.
Most Valuable Student awards went to Wyatt Andreason $500, Camille Jolley $250, Kaylee Andreason $300, and Ashli Munger $500.
Daisha Cummings of Arco and Will Higham of Shelley were selected as Teenagers of the Year.

Robert “Keith” Pendlebury, 83

    Robert “Keith” Pendlebury, 83, of lifetime resident of Blackfoot, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 at his home in Blackfoot.
            Keith was born on December 2, 1928 in Blackfoot, Idaho to John Henry and Cecile Nell Harper Pendlebury.  He attended Blackfoot schools and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1947.
