Sonia Thyberg Norris, 47, passed away at her home in Meridian on June 20,2012.
She was born April 27,1965, to Samuel Tad and Roneen Thyberg in Oceanside, Calif.
Sonia lived and worked in Blackfoot for many years. She worked at Bingham Memorial Nursing Home and The Potato Expo. During her time at the Expo she helped out with the 1997 flood in Bingham County, organizing getting food out to most everyone affected by the flood.
Fern Moore Hammond, 97, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the home of her son, Boyd Hammond.Â She was under the care of her granddaughter, Pamala Hammond, and the Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice.
Fern was born May 3, 1915 in Blackfoot to Phillip Richard Moore and Myrtle Lutz Moore.Â Fern was the eighth child in a family of 11 children.Â She attended Blackfoot High School and graduated on May 17, 1934.
Fern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Â She served as a librarian at the Thomas Church for many years.
Sharrell Esther MacDougall Walker passed from this life on June 13, 2012, at home.Â Her life was taken as a result of a brain tumor.Â She was lovingly cared for by her husband, Marion, and many of her family members. It was an honor to serve the wife, mother, and mother-in-law who has cared for us over many years.
ABERDEEN â€” Shawn Kirkpatrick has been training for arm wrestling since he was 12 and after his latest competition in Reno, Nevada, he can now tout the title "the best in the United States" as he took first place in the 2012 USAF Unified National Championship in left 64kg open men's division. Winning this title pulls him in as a qualifier to compete for the National Championship in Saio, Brazil.
AMMON â€” The Blackfoot Bronco American Legion baseball squad entered Tuesday's double header against the Eastern Division leading Idaho Falls Royals a little short handed as a pair of their big bats were missing.
You never would have noticed the absence however as the Broncos pounded away at the Royal pitching staff for 10 runs on 29 hits over the double header as the Broncos swept the Royals 10-4 and 10-9.
"It was good to pick up a pair of wins today," Blackfoot head coach Jeff Katseanes said.
SPRINGFIELD â€” Nestled along the shore of Springfield Lake in the cozy neighborhood of Springfield lies a park with green grass, a home-built swing and two large tires partially buried in the earth.
ROSE â€” Two of Blackfoot's youth are lucky to be alive after an intense one vehicle rollover. Tyler Condon, 19 and Alex Condon, 16 were driving too fast for a corner near Rose Canal and 450 North Sunday evening. "I was driving to fast, took the corner and the car caught and rolled on the bank and flew into the canal." said Tyler. Once the car hit the water, Tyler yelled "seatbelts!" and the boys frantically grasped their seatbelts to get out of the car that was quickly filling with water. Tyler punctured the air bag and kicked out the driver's side window to escape.
BLACKFOOTâ€” Blackfoot Firefighters respond to yet another fire call this morning, June 25, 2012 as fire erupted along north bound I-15 between mile markers 95-103. Two separate spots were ablaze. One from 95-97 and another near Rose Ponds both along the edge of the freeway. Smoke drifted into traffic causing minor visual problems for commuters. The fire department states that the cause of the fires is unknown.
BLACKFOOT â€” A one vehicle accident occurred last night, Sunday June 24, 2012 involving two teen boys, 19 and 16, near Rose and 450 N. The car, borrowed from their grandmother, ended up in the Rose Canal. The car traveling too fast for the roadway lost traction around the sharp corner and plunged into the canal. Bingham County Search and Rescue sent out the dive team to located the vehicle. The boys were treated for minor injuries and released. Look for more of the story in tomorrow's paper.
BLACKFOOT â€” As Shelley native, Tanner Higham stood on the eighteenth tee box he held a slim one shot lead over soon to be pro Jimmy Burnett. After an errant tee shot into the pond on the right side of the fairway, Higham's shot at a Von Elm Golf Championship came crashing down as Burnett's second day 66 carried him to the 2012 championship.
"I knew that Tanner was one shot ahead when I was on eighteen and I had a ten footer for birdie which I thought that I would have to have but Tanner kind of helped me out a bit," Jimmy Burnett said.
