Ex-BHS athlete charged with violating probation

BLACKFOOT – An evidentiary hearing for Nathan Anthony Walker, age 20, is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7. He is charged with a probation violation.
The alleged violation is being a minor in possession of alcohol on Dec. 22.
Defense attorney,Stephen Blaser requested Walker’s evidentiary hearing be set during Walker’s spring break. He is attending Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Ore.
Seventh District Magistrate Judge Charles Roos agreed to set the hearing in early March.

Vera Thurman, 89

VeraThurman, 89, of Blackfoot passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at her home.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.

Zelma “Betty” Wheeler Eubanks, 92, of Blackfoot passed away Wednesday, Jan.
11, 2012 at The Willows in Blackfoot.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.

On Thursday evening the Snake River Panthers shook off a first quarter in which they mustered just one field goal and then finished with a huge 24 point burst in the fourth quarter to pick up a key 54-36 win over conference rival Marsh Valley.

Winger's Express coming to Blackfoot

BLACKFOOT — As Stefano Bronzati, a Salt Lake City businessman, stood amid the debris in the former Winger's Restaurant in Blackfoot earlier this week, he discussed the future of the building.
"This is completely different than it was before," he said of what will become the prototype for Winger's Express.
"When you walk in, you come and order at the counter," Bronzati added. He said Winger's Express will be similar to quick service restaurants such as Cafe Rio, Rumbi Island Grill and Five Guys Burgers and Fries. All food will be cooked to order.

TaVaci Teen produces mini-musical

BLACKFOOT — Several local kids have been working for several months on the first TaVaci School of Performing Arts TaVaci Teen mini-musical—"Adventures of a Comic Book Artist."
The show will open tonight and continue Jan. 14, 16 and 17 at the Nuart Theater, 195 N. Broadway at 7 p.m. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
"Adventures of a Comic Book Artist" is a mini-musical based on comic book heroes. Director Breclyn Everett said it is a fun show for the entire family.

FIGHT: Dec. 31, 1:35 a.m.: A caller said there may be a fight behind the Best Western Inn.
GAS THEFT: Dec. 31, 3:57 p.m.: A caller at Chevron reported a man driving off without paying for $80 in gas.
SATAN: Jan. 1, 11:49 a.m.: A caller requested an officer because a man is disrupting the church and making statements that he is Satan.

Hal Bohlscheid, 76

Hal Bohlscheid, 76, a former longtime Pocatello resident, passed away, Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at his home in Island Park.
As per his request cremation has been completed.
And no public services are scheduled at this time.

Velma Jim, 62

Velma Jim, 62, of Pocatello passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 at her home from an extended illness.
She was born July 7, 1949 in Pocatello, the daughter of Theresa Marsh and Dietz Pongah Sr.
She graduated from high school in Chilocco, Okla., in 1966.
On October 9, 2009 she married LaVerne L. Jim.
Velma worked for the Shoshone Bannock Tribes and the Indian Health Services as a billing clerk.  She also served on the Tribal Enrollment Committee.
She enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, taking pictures and being with family and grandchildren.

Wet weather may return next week

BLACKFOOT — Forecasters have been predicting wet weather will return the second half of January, and it appears that the area may get to see some rain and snow next week.
The National Weather Service is forecasting that the upper ridge that has contributed to dry, cold weather in Eastern Idaho since late November is expected to move north, allowing a Pacific jet to move in and bring moisture to the Pacific Northwest as early as Sunday and continuing through next week.
