ROCKFORD â€” The Taber fire burned 910 acres before it was contained at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The fire was reported at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday. It burned primarily in cheatgrass and sagebrush in the desert and lava beds west of 1900 West and 300 North, approximately 4 miles south of Taber and 17 miles west of Blackfoot.
The Bureau of Land Management sent four heavy engines, one light engine, two single engine air tankers, one hand crew, one helicopter and a bulldozer to the fire. They were assisted by the Blackfoot Fire Department.
BLACKFOOT â€” Registration for students in the Blackfoot School District will be Aug. 15-17. The first day of school is Aug. 24.
Lunch prices for the 2011-2012 school year will be $1.85 for elementary students, $2.10 for grades 6-12 and $3.10 for all adults. Reduced lunch price is 40 cents.
Breakfast prices are $1.20 for elementary students, $1.35 for grades 6-12 and $1.95 for adults. Reduced breakfast price is 30 cents.
John Paul Orr, 65, of Firth passed away Aug. 6, 2011, at his home after fighting melanoma for 15 years.
Memorial Services will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at Calvary Chapel, 4250 South 25th East, Idaho Falls, with Crockett Stearns officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road.
Joan Phyllis Becker, 81, of San Jose, Calif., a former Firth resident, passed away Aug. 6, 2011 in San Jose.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley.Â The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery.

BLACKFOOT â€“Â It's the chance of a lifetime. Three professional Broadway actors will conduct a 3-day workshop culminating in a public performance Aug. 20. The entire event, "Broadway Lights Up Blackfoot" is a fundraiser organized by the Blackfoot High School Class of 1968 to purchase a new digital display marquee for the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center and BHS.
ROCKFORD â€” A fire west of Blackfoot burned 688 acres and was 50 percent contained by 8 p.m. Tuesday night, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
The fire, named the Taber Fire, was reported about 3 p.m. Tuesday at 1900 West 300 North approximately 4 miles south of Taber and 17 miles west of Blackfoot. The fire was primarily burning in the desert and lava flows but was adjacent to a hay field. There had been no reports of loss or damage due to the fire as of Tuesday evening.
Lois Tyler Navo, 96, a matriarch of the Lemhi Shoshone-Bannock people passed away peacefully on July 6, 2011, at her home.
She was born to John Tyler Jr. (Lemhi sub-chief) and Mary Bearhat Tyler on the Fort Hall Bottoms of the Fort Hall Indian Reservation on Jan. 1, 1917.
In loving memory of our Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Friend and the most giving man on earth, William "Bill" Franklyn Lewis.â€¨Bill, 73, of Blackfoot passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011,Â after a short fight with Multiple System Atrophy (Parkinson Plus) at the Gables in Pocatello surrounded by his family.Â
He was born on Aug. 12, 1937, in Bridgeport, Conn., to Floyd Uriah Lewis and Helen Amelia Braerman.
BLACKFOOT â€“Â Moo-Donna has her new home. The 2011 EISF mascot stretches about six feet from ear to ear and now looks down from her post atop the billboard near the east entrance of the fairgrounds.
Chad Hammond with I.E. Productions said the Eastern Idaho State Fair's three-dimensional billboards are the only of their kind appearing in the state. There are two similar EISF billboards on I-15 and another large Moo-Donna will be placed on the back of the grandstands this year.
"I think it is the coolest welcome to the fair we've ever had," said Hammond.
The EISF runs Sept 3-10.
