Idaho soldiers to begin coming home from Iraq

BOISE — After their yearlong mobilization and deployment to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn, the deployed members of the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team (116th CBCT) are scheduled to return to the U.S. beginning late this month.
Deployed Army National Guardsmen of the 116th CBCT include about 2,700 citizen soldiers from Idaho, Montana and Oregon, with about 1,500 from Idaho, 600 from Montana and 600 from Oregon.

SRHS to present 'Phantom' as early-season offering

THOMAS – It is their youngest cast ever and they are doing their hardest show yet, but when the curtain opens Monday night, performers with the Snake River Musical Theatre department will be ready.
The group is teaming up with community sponsors to bring the acclaimed musical production "Phantom of the Opera" to the stage. The show, written and staged by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1986 has been on professional stages all over the world. But it was just recently released by the Rogers and Hammerstein Music Library to high school students across the nation.

Jack Cornia, 91

Jack Cornia, 91, of Blackfoot passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Riverside 3rd Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Craig Watkins conducting.
The family will meet with friends and family on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.

Canal companies ask for repair help

BLACKFOOT — Canal company representatives met with Bingham County commissioners Wednesday to ask if there is money available to help repair the banks and the headgates of the various canals.
Representatives from Parsons, United, Lavaside, People's, Watson and Blackfoot Irrigation canal companies attended this meeting.
"There is damage to the main gates, the trees have piled up and the river is still running above normal," said one irrigator.
Claudon Lilya from the People's Canal said, "Right now, the reservoirs are full.

SR trustees do housekeeping chores

THOMAS — An open house for K-6 students and their parents in the Snake River School District is from 2:30—4:30 o'clock today at Moreland, Riverside, Rockford and the Snake River Middle School in Thomas.
Snake River trustees appointed Bill Martin to fill the Zone 3 trustee position.

Monte D. Call, 74

August 17, 2011

Monte D. Call, 74, of Rigby, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at his home.
Monte was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Blackfoot, a son of Sydney Call and Vera Swensen Call.
Monte was raised and attended school and graduated from Blackfoot High School. He married Bonnie Landon on Nov. 14, 1958. They were later divorced. He married Cherlyn Kay Leavitt July 18, 1975, in Elko, Nev.
Monte worked as a core driller in California for seven years, then at Cushman Drilling and H K Construction as a truck driver until he retired in 1999.

Calvin Theodore Jarmin, 87

Calvin Theodore Jarmin, 87, of Riverside passed away Aug. 16, 2011, at his home.
Calvin was born June 24, 1924 in Grandy, Neb., to Herbert William Jarmin and Emma Blanche Moore.
On Aug. 28, 1945 Calvin married Una Hitchcock in Pocatello. Their marriage was later solemnized on May 20, 1960, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Calvin was the owner of a trucking company, farmer, rancher irrigation pipe mover and fence builder extraordinaire.
He was a very hard worker, devoted husband and father, and a loving grandfather.

her residence surrounded by her loved ones.

Rosa Gilbert Rindlisbaker, 95

August 17, 2011

Rosa Gilbert Rindlisbaker, 95, of Blackfoot, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Bingham Memorial Hospital and Extended Care in Blackfoot.
She was born Oct. 11, 1915, in Whitney to James Harris Gilbert and Jennie Swainston Gilbert. She was raised and attended schools in Bancroft, graduating from Bancroft High School.
On Nov. 9, 1934, she married Fredrick Christian Rindlisbaker in Logan, Utah; their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on Nov. 10, 1942. She worked along with her husband on the family farm in Hatch where they raised their family.
