Margaret J. Hansen, 96

May 3, 2011

Margaret Johnson Heaps Hansen, passed away May 1, 2011, six weeks before her 96th birthday.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday May 7, 2011, at the Kimball Ward Chapel (744 North 600 East) in Firth.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and from noon-12:40 p.m. before the services at the church on Saturday.
Interment will be in the Firth Cemetery.

Jordanah Roslyn Reyes

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Jordanah Roslyn Reyes, infant daughter of Mickey Reyes and Bonnie Sanchez, passed away April 29, 2011. at the University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born April 29, 2011 at the University Hospital in Salt Lake City.
She is survived by her parents of Blackfoot; a brother, Santana; paternal grandparents, Ramon and Maria Reyes of Blackfoot and maternal grandmother; Lucy Marquez Ruiz of Idaho Falls.

Fred Keith Merrell, 89

NEOSHO, Mo. — Fred Keith Merrell, 89 passed away April 27, 2011. at Medicalodge of Neosho, Missouri. He had battled Parkinson Disease for over 10 years with patience and determination. 
He was born June 12, 1921, in Blackfoot, the youngest son of Isaac George and Carrie Elmina Merrell.

Lady Broncos sweep Rigby

BLACKFOOT — In a remake of last Fridays weather cancelation, the Blackfoot Lady Broncos hosted Rigby for what could prove to be a very important conference double header.
Blackfoot found themselves trailing in both ball games on Monday before rallying for a pair of wins 13-12 in game one and 4-3 in game two.
"These girls just respond and work well under pressure," Blackfoot head coach Brenda Whitworth said. "They do a great job of coming from behind and they did it again today. They just never say die."

Broncos win big on senior day

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot sent their seniors out in style on Monday night as they took to the home diamond for the final time as they tangled with Bingham County rival Shelley.
After a moving ceremony the Broncos took to the field looking for a season sweep of the Russets, handing the ball to senior Sam Cannon on the hill.
Shelley came out swinging against Cannon, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning as Sam Graham led off with a double. Kade Longhurst plated Graham with a single and later scored courtesy of a Tyler Kidman sacrifice for the quick 2-0 lead.

Blackfoot soldier maintains focus in Iraq

ponder the merits of a good work ethic very long.
After all, he already knows what the right ingredients are to put in a hard day of work. He learned that work ethic early and then sharpened it while he worked for his father at his shop in Blackfoot.
"You judge success by the quality of work that gets done, not by how much but by how good it is," said the 19-year-old.

Blackfoot woman arrested in connection with Arizona murders

SHOW LOW, Ariz. — A woman police say is from Blackfoot was arrested in Arizona Sunday after she was found driving a stolen vehicle of a murdered woman near the Mexico border.
Gabriela Maldonado, a 21-year-old female, was detained at the border crossing April 30 driving a stolen 2006 Hummer and was arrested for auto theft, according to Show Low Police Chief Jeffrey Smythe.

Blackfoot High students share in history

Talk about timing.
The Blackfoot High School (BHS) We the People team was only a few miles from the White House on Sunday when they heard that terrorist Osama bin Laden, mastermind of 9-11, had been killed.
"Sunday night, we had returned from a dance when the We the People Idaho state coordinator called to say, 'Get down to the White House,' said Mitch Jensen, BHS We the People competitor.
"We crowded into our coach's room to watch the television and hear President [Barack] Obama's address," he said. "We were all excited, wondering if [the news of bin Laden's death] was true.

Shelley students, teacher seek publisher for book

The students include seven freshmen, a sophomore, a junior and a senior.
