BLACKFOOT â Bingham County commissioners elected to send solid waste generated in Bingham County to the Bannock County Landfill this week. The tipping cost to haul to Bannock is $26 per ton. The contract is for the next five years.
The previous week the commissioners had received non-qualifying bids for the service. The county did not ask for specific parameters, so there was lots of information to consider, Commission chairman Cleone Jolley said.
BLACKFOOT â As fairgoers enter through the north gate near the West Events area they will pass by a new feature of the Eastern Idaho State Fairâa community garden demonstration. The Eastern Idaho State Fair begins Saturday and continues through Sept. 10.
Master Gardener Jon Lyksettâwho coordinated the new Blackfoot Community Garden near Airport Road and Teeples Driveâhas been working in the garden at the fairgrounds for months in preparation for next week.
Kim Vance Nakamura, 27, of Blackfoot passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, due to medical complications.
Kim was born March 3, 1984, to Vance K. Nakamura and Elizabeth Marie Jimenez in Blackfoot.Â He attended school in the Blackfoot School District, graduating from Blackfoot High School in 2002.Â Except for a short time in California he spent his entire life in Southeast Idaho.
Marley Fackrell, 86, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Hawker Funeral Home.
Paul J. Happel, Jr., 71, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, in Pocatello at the Ridge Wind Assisted Living and Nursing Home.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Grove City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot. Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
Raymond Jensen, 87, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
Mary M. Hanni, 86, passed away on Aug. 27, 2011, at her home in Mackay.
She was born Sept. 17, 1924, in White Knob, Idaho, the fourth child of Claude and Florence Ritson Woods.Â Mary was raised in Mackay and graduated from Mackay High School in 1942.Â While in high school, Mary was active with the girls basketball team and the band club.
Andrew Dunford Elison passed Aug. 29, 2011, of causes resulting from a fall on Memorial Day.
He was born March 13, 1956, to Lewis and Elaine (Dunford) Elison in Blackfoot. The family moved to Price, Utah, briefly, then moved back to Blackfoot to live in Grandpa Marvin Elisonâs house on Riverton Road. A new house was built next door where Lewis and Elaine raised six children. They had a farm where Andy drove the tractor to haul hay and he also milked cows. He loved his mother very much and helped her with chores in the home.
Charles Edward Pieper, 89, passed away from duodenal cancer Sunday, Aug. 28. 2011, at his Arco home. He was born, raised and lived his entire life in Arco. For the last 27 years he and his wife, Faye have spent six monthw each winter in Yuma, Ariz., at their âsnowbirdâ home in Winter Gardens.
