Shelley Preparedness Fair draws crowd

SHELLEY — About 1,000 people took advantage of the Emergency and Preparedness Fair at Shelley High School Saturday.
“Attendance was beyond our expectations,” said organizer Terrill Christensen. “We’re tickled about the turnout.”
This is the third year Shelley has hosted a preparedness fair.
Terry Johnson demonstrated the Aqua Pour-Niken Water Purification System.
“I expected to be sitting a lot but there were so many people--I’m wearing better shoes next year,” Johnson said.
“A lot of people were helped today,” said Barbara Morrison from Shelley.

Broncos even season series with Bonneville

BLACKFOOT — A day after a road loss at Bonneville, the Blackfoot Broncos returned home, looking for a season split with the Bees.
After an early start time on the diamond and a slow start at the plate, Blackfoot rebounded for a nice 5-3, come from behind victory.
"It really feels good. The boys came out today a little slow to get started but once they did I was really impressed," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said.

Melvin Martin, 72, of Blackfoot passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the home of his daughter, Jennie Hong.

Walter L. Tschikof, 90, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at a local care center.
Arrangements are pending through Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel.

Anthony ‘A.J.’ Keith Camp, 24

Anthony “A.J.” Keith Camp, 24, of Firth passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
A.J. was born June 2, 1986. in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Deborah Camp Lockyer. He attended school in Firth and graduated from Jefferson High School in Rigby.
A.J. worked at Idaho Supreme in Firth. In his free time he enjoyed working on cars, woodworking, and playing basketball and football in high school and hanging around with his friends and family.

Two former BHS athletes sentenced to jail, probation

BLACKFOOT — Two of the five former Blackfoot High School athletes facing charges stemming from incidents that occurred last year are now serving the first part of their jail sentence.
Logan Chidester and Nathan Walker each pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor disturbing the peace. They were both sentenced Friday in Bingham County Magistrate Court.

D55 considers Native American language preservation

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot School Board of Trustees discussed Native American language preservation at their meeting Thursday night.
The topic of Native American language immersion in the Blackfoot School District has been an ongoing topic for the school board, an effort supported by Trustee Pete Lipovac.
At the meeting, Superintendent Scott Crane presented information about several Native American Language Preservation Acts that provide grant funding for language preservation programs.

Anthony “A.J.” Keith Camp, 24, of Firth passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot, with Pastor Lifeshay officiating. Family will meet with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services on Saturday.
