Longtime jail officer retires

BLACKFOOT — Today marks Bingham County Deputy Larry Christian's 60th birthday, his last day of work in the Bingham County Jail and almost the beginning of his retirement.
Christian is the first person who started his career working in the Bingham County Jail and retired from that same facility.
"I love my job," Christian said. "It's a good fit for me."
Christian started in law enforcement after someone stole a pair of boots from his store, the Hirsch Value Center, located by White Eagle.

Students read 2 million minutes

BLACKFOOT — Elementary students in the Blackfoot and Snake River school districts read for more than 2 million minutes in October after a friendly challenge from the local firefighters union.
In the Blackfoot School District, seven schools participated with a total of 1,095 students reading for a combined 1.94 million minutes. In Snake River, Riverside Elementary had 271 students participate. They read 210,592 minutes.

Cleo Irene Andreason Maynard, 80

Cleo Irene Andreason Maynard, 80, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the Lost Rivers Living Center in Arco.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home 2555 N. Highway 93, Arco, ID 83213.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services.

Cindy Lou Olsen Lovell

POCATELLO, ID—On December 10, 2010, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away in the arms of her loving daughters to return to her Father in Heaven, Savior, family members, and beloved husband Robert E. Lovell.
She was born on May 31, 1957, to Kay and Zola Olsen. Cindy was born into a family of ten children. Her formative years were spent growing up and attending schools in Iona, ID. She graduated from Bonneville High School in 1975.
Shortly after graduation, on June 13, 1975, she married Robert E Lovell in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity.

Cookies go quickly at Festival

BLACKFOOT – They weren’t exactly a swarm of locusts, but those who attended the Emanuel Lutheran Cookie Festival on Saturday quickly got what they wanted.
“I knew to get here at 11 because they’re gone in a hurry,” said Jeanne Hoover. “I come to get good cookies and to help support the charities.”
The sale of the cookies was scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. but the selection was best for those who came at opening time.
Many people have been coming for many years. The Festival was in its 18th year.
Juell Stewart, however, was a first-time attendee.

Beavers edge out Tigers 44-43

ABERDEEN — Friday nights showdown with Aberdeen and American Falls had all the ear marks befitting of the classic rivalry, with both teams nailing big shots from the field, both teams playing tough defense, and the game coming down to the last shot of the game as American Falls escaped the Tiger Den with a 44-43 victory.

Lady Bees sting Lady Broncos at the Hive

IDAHO FALLS - The Lady Broncos travelled up I-15 to the Bonneville Bee Hive to take on the Lady Bees and were stung to the tune of a 46-38 set back Friday night.
In a game that was closer than the final score would indicate, the Lady Broncos seemed poised to take the sting out of the Lady Bees until Erica Shenton scored nine straight points in the early going of the fourth quarter to put the Bonneville squad in front for good.

Dewain H. Taylor, 62

Dewain H. Taylor, 62, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at his home in Blackfoot.
Dewain was born December 22, 1947 in Rigby, Idaho to Donald S. Taylor and Mary A. Hill. He spent his childhood in Blackfoot, Idaho and graduated from Blackfoot High School.
Dewain married Regina Ceriello and together they had two children, Dewain A. “Tony” and Theresa. They were later divorced.

Robert Charles Parker, 83

December 10, 2010

Robert Charles Parker, 83, of the Blackfoot area passed away December 9, 2010 at the home of his daughter Charlotte Marx in Bloomington, Bear Lake, Idaho.
Bob, as he was known, was born in 1926 in Bloomington, Idaho to George Elmer Parker and Lula Caroline Christensen. He spent his childhood there, attending Fielding High School in Paris, Idaho.

Accident blocks Highway 91 south of Blackfoot

An accident involving a semi-trailer and a passenger car blocked a section of Highway 91 between Blackfoot and the south interchange at Exit 89 Friday morning.
Emergency crews from Blackfoot and Fort Hall were dispatched to the accident, which occurred at approximately 10 a.m. Officers from Idaho State Police, Blackfoot Police and the Bingham County Sheriff were also dispatched to assist.
