Educator knows many roles

FORT HALL – Educator Brenda Honena has worn many headpieces in her 18 years working in the Blackfoot School District.
In her years with the district, Honena has worked as a teacher, principal and Indian Education Program Director. This is her first year as the principal and her sixth year as the Indian Education Program Director.
Each role has a different emphasis, Honena said.

Marvin Jess, 80

Marvin Jess, 80 of Blackfoot passed away October 24, 2010 at the Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Services are pending and will be announced by the Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.

Carl Johannesen, 90

October 25, 2010

Carl Johannesen, 90, of Blackfoot passed away at his home Friday, October 22, 2010 from causes incident to age.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. October 28, 2010 at the Rose LDS Chapel.
Burial will follow at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
Family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot and one hour prior to services at the Church.

Braeden Mortensen, 16

Braeden Mortensen, 16, of Shelley, passed away October 22, 2010 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the Shelley South Stake Center (675 South Milton) in Shelley.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:40 a.m. at the church.

Vivian Woolley Dills, 83

Vivian Woolley Dills, 83, passed away Sept. 22, 2010, in Blackfoot.
Vivian was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Denver, Colo., the only child of Adrian Rumel Woolley and Vivian Genette Sperry.
Her family moved to Pocatello where Adrian owned and operated Mountain Electric for many years.
Vivian attended public schools and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1945.
After graduation she attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles, majoring in Fashion Merchandising. She returned to Pocatello and married Paul Dills, her high school sweetheart in 1947.

Elks promote drug awareness

BLACKFOOT — Five kids who committed to remain drug free received a new bike Saturday from the Elks Drug Awareness Program.
The kids entered a raffle sponsored by the Elks Lodge. The drawing was conducted at the Drug Awareness Trailer at the Eastern Idaho State Fair last month. The bike giveaway is just one of the programs the Elks use to teach children and parents about the dangers of illegal drugs.
“It feels good to give some of the kids something back,” said Joe Hewlett, B.P.O.E. Drug Awareness Committee chairman.

Lady Panthers crowned State Champions

TWIN FALLS — The magical dream season continued for the Snake River Lady Panthers as they closed the deal with a 2-1 victory over Payette for their first state championship on the soccer pitch.
"The girls did a great job of holding their own, everyone just came out and played together with just a ton of heart," Snake River head coach Randy Turpin said. "It's been a fantastic season and we've just been a team all season long but each one of these girls deserve all the credit for this accomplishment."

Hoskins 5 touchdown night lifts Broncos to conference title

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck is fond of saying that special players make special plays. On Friday night, the Blackfoot Broncos got special plays by several special players but none bigger than the 7-catch, 5-touchdown effort from senior Beau Hoskins who led the Broncos to a conference clinching 43-28 victory.
"This was huge, coming off of our loss last week we needed to come back off of that and get back to practicing hard and we did that harder than ever this week," Beau Hoskins said.

Maggie Ann Roland, 28

Maggie Ann Roland, 28, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Lifecare Center in Idaho Falls, from complications of Prader-Willis Syndrome.
Maggie was born August 22, 1982 in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Duane and Carla Irene Hoffhine Roland. She moved with her family to Blackfoot before she turned one and has resided in Blackfoot since. She attended school in Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School in 2001.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was happy to be able to attend the temple on June 5, 2010.
