Firth man shot, killed in Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Falls police say an argument in a motel parking lot led to a chase and shooting that left one man dead. Officers are seeking two persons of interest.

Sgt. Phil Grimes said 24-year-old Anthony Keith Camp of Firth was shot in the back while he was driving and his car struck a parked car and then crashed into a house at about 3 a.m. Tuesday. Camp died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. His female passenger had minor injuries.

Snake River art teacher shares style

THOMAS — Visual arts influence everything, said Snake River High School art teacher Jason Coles. For example, engineers design how a car moves but an artist designs what the car looks like. The same goes for shoes and shoelaces.
"People don't think of the influence of visual arts," Coles said.
Coles' favorite art medium is oil.
"There's something about taking a blank piece of paper or canvas and creating something," Coles said.
"I think it's important for my students to see me enjoying working on art," he said. "Hopefully, it inspires them.

Sleeping Beauty comes to Blackfoot

BLACKFOOT — Members of the Blackfoot 11th LDS Ward will present their Second Annual English Pantomime tonight through Saturday at their chapel, 520 North Shilling. The public is welcome. Admission is free although they will seek donations for Haiti Relief during intermission.
The evening performances begin at 7 p.m. Saturday's show will be a 1:30 p.m. matinee.
"The English take a fairy tale and take poetic license," producer Mike Pope said of the performance. "They make it as fun as they can.

Tonia Bingham, 96 of Blackfoot died March 19, 2011, at the Skilled Nursing Center in Blackfoot.
She was born Nov. 24, 1914 in Zapotiltic, Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Agapito and Petra Horta Cortés.
Tonia was raised and educated in Mexico. She attended business college in Guadalajara and worked as a bilingual secretary for a legal firm, a mining company and the Southern Pacific Railroad.
Tonia married J. Paul Bingham on Sept. 23, 1946, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Neal Powell, 76, of Blackfoot passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at his home.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the Jason Lee Memorial Methodist Church under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.

Blackfoot High senior working as Senate page

BOISE — Blackfoot High School (BHS) senior Mitchell Jensen is working as a page in the Idaho Senate. He has been spending his weekdays in Boise since Feb. 17.
"I'll be here until "sine die," Jensen said. ("Sine die" is when the proceedings have been adjourned with no appointed date for resumption.)
Two groups of six students work as pages for six weeks in the Idaho Senate during the legislative session. The Legislature normally lasts about 12 weeks.
There are 35 senators in Idaho; one senator represents each district.

Babcock claims title of Blackfoot's Distinguished Young Woman

BLACKFOOT — Kyra Babcock won the title of Blackfoot's 2011-2012 Distinguished Young Woman over a field of 16 other beautiful and gifted competitors Saturday night at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center.
The 17 Blackfoot High School juniors competed in the areas of scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression. Each category was judged with the following criteria:
· Scholastic-20 percent
· Interview-25 percent
· Talent-25 percent
· Fitness-15 percent
· Self-expression-15 percent
