Tribes name new casino manager

The Shoshone Bannock Tribes have selected a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Shoshone Bannock Gaming Operation and Hotel & Event Center. The Fort Hall Business Council (FHBC) made the decision to combine the management of the two properties and on Monday announced John Phillips, a 30-year casino veteran, as the CEO.

Train derailment

BLACKFOOT-There was a train derailment in Blackfoot involving several cars on Tuesday evening. The derailment, which happened at around 5:45 p.m., caused headaches for evening commuters blocking the crossings at Highway 91/ South Broadway and Judicial Street.
Blackfoot Police officials said that it could take several hours for all of the crossings to open.

Naked violinist sues over arrest

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Hillsboro, Oregon, man arrested after playing a violin while naked outside the federal courthouse in Portland last year is suing police.
The Oregonian reports that 25-year-old Matthew T. Mglej claims authorities used excessive force and violated his First Amendment rights. He named the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and Portland Police Bureau as defendants in a lawsuit filed last week, and he's seeking $1.1 million in damages.

Local students in Boise for school choice rally

This week is National School Choice Week. Many activities and celebration are scheduled in Idaho from Monday through Saturday.
Today, 100 individuals—both students and chaperones—will attend a rally in Boise for Capitol Day for School Choice.
"We are leaving at 4:15 a.m.," said Fred Ball, director of the Blackfoot Charter Community Learning Center (BCCLC). We will meet at the Basque Cultural Center at 9 a.m. to explore the center.
"After lunch, we will march to the Capitol Building where we will hear different speakers," he said.

Man dies in auto accident in Rockford
