Blackfoot grapplers take down Poky

BLACKFOOT — For the first time this season the Blackfoot High School wrestling team took to the mats of Blackfoot High School.
Their opponent; perennial power and district rival Pocatello.
It took just 33 seconds for the Broncos to make their mark on the match as Chase Wasia pinned the Indians Jess Nielsen to get the Broncos rolling.
When the match was all said and done the Broncos walked away with a 51-30 win and some valuable reps in preparation for this weekends Tiger/Grizz Invitational in Idaho Falls.

Century cruises to 65-44 win over Blackfoot

BLACKFOOT — After falling behind by as many as 19 points on two different occasions Tuesday night against district rival Century, the Blackfoot Broncos could have easily rolled over.
Instead the Broncos chipped away at the Diamondbacks lead cutting to 12 with seven minutes remaining in the game.
But on four consecutive possessions the Broncos failed to capitalize on their opportunities as Century pulled away earning a 65-44 win at Blackfoot High School.

Panthers use big first quarter to take down Diggers 55-45

THOMAS — When the Snake River and Sugar-Salem boys basketball teams met over Christmas break in Sugar City it took two overtimes and missed free throw in the final seconds for the Panthers to escape with a one-point win.
The two teams met again Saturday night in front of a packed house in Thomas, and after one quarter it was clear the home team was out to make sure they result from the first meeting would not be the same this time.
Snake River dominated the opening eight minutes building a 16-2 lead and finishing the game going 7-for-8 from the foul line to earn a 55-45 victory.

Panthers slam Redskins 68-50

THOMAS — Over the past few weeks the Snake River boys basketball team had been struggling offensively.
Tuesday night at Soda Springs the Panthers scored just 37 points in a two-point victory over the Cardinals.
After one quarter of Friday night's home game with Teton it appeared the offensive struggles would continue.
But one play in the second quarter ignited the panthers offense as the cruised to a 68-50 win over the Redskins.

Broncos come up three points short

BLACKFOOT — Trailing by one point with 21.2 seconds left the Blackfoot Broncos had plenty of time to get off a game-tying shot attempt.
The first attempt was a good look at the basket, but bounced off the back of the rim.
After a pair of free throws by Skyline extended the lead back to three, the Broncos had one last chance to send the game into overtime.
But Kaden Loveland's three point attempt hit the front of the rim and the Grizzlies escaped with a 65-62 win at Blackfoot High School Wednesday night.

No. 1 Century runs past Blackfoot 59-40

BLACKFOOT — Since before Christmas Blackfoot head girls basketball coach Merle Smith stressed how important Tuesday night's game with the top team in 4A the Century Diamondbacks.
For a quarter the Broncos kept the game close, but a hot shooting night from the Diamondbacks Sarah Holt and the low post play of Henny Hearn were too much for the Broncos too overcome as Century cruised to a 59-40 victory.
Blackfoot trailed 14-8 after one quarter and started the second quarter on a 6-0 thanks in part to a pair of steals and layups from Cassandra Clarke to tie the score 14-14.

Knights run past Lady Broncos 68-49

BLACKFOOT — It had been two weeks since the Blackfoot Lady Broncos last suited up for a game as the Christmas and New year's holidays gave the team some time to relax, recover and prepare for the second half of the season.
With a very large district game looming with the state's top ranked team Century on Tuesday, the Lady Broncos welcomed the Knights of Hillcrest High School to Blackfoot.
Despite 26 points from Morningrose Tobey, the Broncos were handed a defeat 68-49.

Lady Panthers cruise past Malad 54-27

THOMAS — Snake River head coach Rich Dunn prides his teams on doing one thing very well; playing defense.
When the Lady Panthers took to the floor Saturday night for their home game with Malad it was hard to tell if the week off between games and few days off had any effect on the team at all.
The Lady Panthers defense was in lock down mode from the opening tip as they cruised to a 54-27 win over the visiting Dragons at Snake River High School.
