Blackfoot downs Middleton to claim another football championship

For the Blackfoot Broncos Friday’s 4A state championship football game was an offensive clinic as the men in green racked up a state record 548 yards of offense. They never punted in a game in which they dominated from start to finish for a resounding 48-19 victory over the Vikings of Middleton.
“Wow, we looked like an NFL offense out there tonight,” Blackfoot coach Stan Buck said. “We came out and accomplished everything that we wanted to do and our playmakers stepped up and made plays.”

It's the moment that you've all been waiting for. It's championship Friday and by nights end Bingham County could be celebrating not one, not two, but three different state football titles in three different classifications as the Blackfoot Broncos, Shelley Russets and Firth Cougars will all take to their respective fields looking to etch their names into the lore of their respective programs.
Last season Bingham County took home two of the three title games in which they participated in and this year a large contingent of fans from the respective schools are hoping for a little bit more.
The fearless predictions are a perfect 11-0 on the playoffs looking to go a perfect 14-0 with this weeks picks and so, without further ado…..

Lady Panthers open season with win

THOMAS — It took a little while longer for Snake River's opening night as the start time to the game was delayed by the opening games but when the contest finally tipped off, the Lady Panthers wasted little time dismantling South Fremont as they cruised to a 57-38 opening night victory.
"Defense, defense, defense. That's what we are and every team calls it something different but to us it's Panther defense and I think that we set that tone early and often," Snake River head coach Rich Dunn said. "Last year on opening night after the first quarter it was 4-2 so tonight really shows, second year for most of these kids in the program in which we all are more on the same page. Every body participated in the summer program and even though it was South Fremont's second game of the season, they were the ones that looked rusty not us."

Four turn in top times in Tater Trot

BLACKFOOT -- Peyton Astle recorded the fastest time in the Tater Trot 5-kilometer run at Airport Park on Saturday. His top time was 23 minutes, 57.36 seconds.
Marlene Lyksett had the best time of 1:30.24.50 in the 10-kilometer walk and Chris Davis had the best of 43:23.40 in the 10-kilometer run.
The event was a fundraiser for the Community Dinner Table's Christmas box project.

POCATELLO — That very large exhale heard from Idaho State's Holt Arena late Saturday night was the huge sigh of relieve from the large Blackfoot contingent as their defense made not one, but two huge stops late in the fourth quarter to seal the 34-27 semi-final victory over the Skyview Hawks.

First quarter ends, score tied at 6-6.

Second Quarter
Alonzo Ramos hits Colby Pearson in the corner of the endzone on an 11 yard touchdown pass. Gabby Bartollo extra point is good! Blackfoot leads 13-6 with 6:03 remaining in the half.

Firth comeback sends Cougars into state title game

POCATELLO – A 2A state championship game berth was on the line Saturday afternoon as the undefeated Firth Cougars battled with West Side in a rematch from week one of the regular season.
In that opening game Firth was never challenged, much like the majority of the season but on Saturday, the Pirates came out fighting as they led for most of the contest. In the end the Cougars were able to fend off the pesky Pirates however as they escaped Holt Arena with a hard fought 22-14 victory.

Shelley vs Gooding

Shelley (10-0) takes on Gooding (10-0) in a battle of unbeaten teams with a spot in the 3A state title game on the line.

Gooding gets on the board quickly and leads Shelley 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Nelson scores on a 38-yard touchdown pass to get the Russets on the board and tie score 7-7 midway through the second quarter.

Shelley turns the ball over with fumble late in the second quarter, giving the Senators great field position at the Russets 38-yard line. But Shelley's defense comes up with a stop and the score is 7-7 at halftime.
