Broncos, Russets split legion doubleheader

BLACKFOOT — It had been a few weeks since the Blackfoot American Legion baseball team has played a game on their own field, but Wednesday the Broncos returned home against county rival Shelley.
After a 40 run explosion at the Twin Falls tournament last weekend the Broncos were looking to continue their winning ways, while the young Russets were looking to get some momentum going as they have a large chunk of home games upcoming.
Blackfoot's offense kept rolling in game one earning an 11-3 win, but behind the arm and bat of Josh Peterson the Russets took game two 7-6.

State champions to be crowned today in Pocatello

POCATELLO —Securing a spot in today's short go.
That was the goal for the cowboys and cowgirls from Bingham County on Friday at the Idaho High School Rodeo Finals at the Bannock County Fairgrounds in Pocatello.
Having an average good enough to be one of the top 20 in today's finals meant that Friday's third go was everybody's last chance.
After a week with very few serious injuries the rodeo has gone of without a hitch, but District 1's R.J. Cotant went on a wild ride that left him motionless on the arena floor.

POCATELLO — Time is running out for the cowboys and cowgirls competing at the Idaho High School Rodeo Finals in Pocatello as Thursday mornings session was the final of the second go.
With the opportunity to record a qualified ride quickly running out, each and every competitor knew one mistake could be the difference between making Saturday's finals or not.
A handful of cowboys and cowgirls from Bingham County took the arenas of the Bannock County Fairgrounds looking to improve on their average for the week and quite possibly cement their spot in the finals.

Hutchings blazes through barrels to start second go

POCATELLO — She goes by the nickname of 'Full Throttle' because of the way she rides her horse.
But after exploding onto the scene during last year's Idaho High School Rodeo Finals Huthcings had not exactly started this years event the way she would have liked.
That all changed in the Tuesday night session where Hutchings was the last competitor to take the arena floor of the Bannock County Fairgrounds in barrel racing.
Hutchings blazed through the barrels to a time of 17. 779 to win the session and end the first go on a high note.

POCATELLO — The first full day of rodeo action took to the Bannock County Fairgrounds in Pocatello Tuesday afternoon and for the kids from Bingham County the morning sessions results were mixed.
For some Tuesday mornings session was the first time they had hit the arena on the quest for a Idaho High School Rodeo Finals title as each and every competitor were looking to earn their spot in Saturday's final.

POCATELLO — There is something about Halliwell Park that does not agree with the Blackfoot Broncos.
Last summer the Broncos saw their American Legion season come to an end in the 'A' district tournament on the field in Pocatello. The Broncos also saw their 2013 season begin with a doubleheader sweep by Wednesday opponent the Pocatello Razorbacks.
The Broncos hit the road for the first time in the 2014 season and made the short drive down I-15 to take on the Razorbacks and the bug a boo of Halliwell Park got the Broncos again in game one of their doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot American Legion baseball team opened the 2014 season with a bang on Monday pounding out 31 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Idaho Falls Rangers at Blackfoot High School.
The boys of summer wasted little time showing that a run to a state 'A' title is the teams goal for this season.
The Broncos took game one 15-5 in five innings and took game two 16-6 in five innings behind a pair of eight-run innings.

Osborn, Fairchild earn High Country Conference honors

BLACKFOOT — After helping lead the Blackfoot baseball team to a second place finish in the District 5/6 regular season standings a pair of Broncos earned High Country All-Conference honors on Friday.
Senior shortstop Russell Osborn earned second team infielder honors and Dallin Fairchild earned a pair of honors one as an honorable mention pitcher, the other as a second team outfielder.
