Broncos repeat as Conference Champions

POCATELLO — Here come the champs! Here come the champs! Yes, the defending conference and state champion Blackfoot Broncos took another step towards a repeat of 2011 as they downed the second seeded Century Diamondbacks 2-0 at Century High School on Thursday afternoon to capture their second straight conference championship.
"It was an uncomfortable pressure on us entering the tournament as the top seed," Blackfoot head coach Liam Pope said. "When your the underdog your not expected to win and looking back this is the first time that the top seed has won the district tournament since I've been coaching here."

Panthers pounce on Beavers 3-1

THOMAS — The Snake River Panther volleyball squad closed out their home schedule on Wednesday evening as they paid a fond farewell to their lone senior Whitney Dance in a special pre game ceremony and then bid adieu to a pesky American Falls squad 3-1 by the final scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-10 and 25-6.
"Whitney played well tonight, she had several nice kills and it was nice to send her off with a win," Snake River head coach Shelli Van Orden said. "Overall I was really happy that we did as well as we did because you never know what is going to happen with a new rotation."

Lady Broncos open post season play with 4-0 victory

BLACKFOOT — It's postseason time for the area soccer squads and on Saturday morning, the Blackfoot Lady Broncos welcomed Rigby to town for a first round play off game on the pitch.
A little over a week previous the same two teams battled to a 1-1 draw. On Saturday, Blackfoot was having none of that nonsense however as Cassandra Clarke tallied a hat trick and Meaghan Collard backed up her bold Thursday prediction of a victory with a goal of her own in a 4-0 victory over the Lady Trojans.

Panthers roll Eagles 41-6

THOMAS — Nate Martin rushed for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns while the defensive unit pitched a near shutout as the Snake River Panthers opened conference play with a most impressive 41-6 victory over long time nemesis Marsh Valley on Friday evening.
"We wanted to come out and set a tone," Nate Martin said. "We just wanted to keep fired up from start till finish tonight."

Broncos win shootout 57-36

BLACKFOOT — Kyler Haddon rushed four 104 yards and four touchdowns and James Korth added 106 receiving yards while scoring three touchdowns as the defending 4A state champion Blackfoot Broncos extended their winning streak to 18 games with a 57-36 win over Hillcrest on Thursday evening.
"The offense was outstanding tonight," Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck said. "Alonzo threw the ball well. We ran the ball well and our offensive line protected well we just didn't anticipate a shootout like we got tonight."

Lady Indians blank Lady Broncos to close out regular season

BLACKFOOT — It was the close of the 2012 regular soccer season for the Blackfoot Lady Broncos on Tuesday evening and for a trio of seniors, Alexsys Ramirez, Diana Hernandez and Sharon Varela, it was the final home game for them as well.
Unfortunately, on a day in which the wind was howling, the Lady Broncos were unable to muster the offense necessary to win as they fell 3-0 to conference foe Preston.

ISU's Hill receives national honor

Idaho State senior tight end Josh Hill has been named the National Tight End of the Week by College Football Performance Awards for his performance on Saturday against Sacramento State.

Hill, a Blackfoot High School graduate, had a career afternoon as he caught 12 passes for 123 yards against the Hornets. His previous career high was nine catches against Portland State last year and 92 yards receiving against Western State in the 2011 home opener. For the season Hill has 25 catches for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

Broncos force 5 turnovers in 45-21 win over Bees

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot defense forced 5 Bonneville turnovers and the dynamic duo of Alonzo Ramos and Colby Pearson accounted for four Bronco scores as the Blackfoot Broncos remained unbeaten on the season with a 45-21 win over the Bees.
"We knew that we would have to come out and score some points because Bonneville has some explosive kids," Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck said. "Our defense got off to a fantastic start and when your being aggressive and flying to the ball you can create turnovers. Our philosophy was to bend but not break and that's what we did tonight."
