Utah State honors former Snake River star

LOGAN, Utah — A former Snake River High School and Utah State University athlete has been named to USU's athletic hall of fame.
Shae Jones-Bair was one of the most decorated woman athletes for the Aggies. She earned All-American honors during her collegiate career.
As a redshirt athlete in 1998, Jones-Bair earned her first All-American honor by finishing eighth in the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Her second All-American accolade came at the 1999 NCAA Indoor Championships where she placed fifth in the pole vault.

Broncos rally for win over Diamondbacks

POCATELLO – The Century Diamondbacks had the defending 4A state champion Broncos on the ropes, up 14-13 with the ball on the Bronco 26-yard line. All of that changed in a heartbeat however as Blackfoot’s Brock Baguley intercepted a Shane Rominger pass in the endzone and then returned it to the 18-yard line.
That spark eventually carried the Broncos to a 34-14 victory.
“That was a great play by Brock just an outstanding job,” Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck said.
Eleven plays and 82 yards later the Broncos took the lead for good with a Mitch Martin 2-yard touchdown plunge a two point conversion and a 21-14 Bronco lead. On the drive Blackfoot rushed the ball on every play as the offensive line created gaping holes in the Century defensive front.

Cougars slay Dragons, remain unbeaten

Coach Keith Drake before the game was asked what he believed were the keys to winning. “Stop the long pass.” Simple yet to the point, he went on to make the points that the Malad had very large offensive tackles and that Green through the ball well. “Putting pressure on the QB is going to be very important to help defend with the deep pass. Firth went on to do exactly that, defend the deep pass and force Green to throw short most of the night.

Panthers outlast Russets in five game thriller

THOMAS — For the second time in the past week the Snake River Panthers and the Shelley Russets collided on the volleyball court for a good old fashioned slugfest and for the second time in the past week it was the two time defending state champion Panthers who emerged victorious with a thrilling five game victory 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 26-24 and 15-9.
It was a southern match all evening as all five games were won by the team playing on the south end of the court, including the five and final game which witnessed the Russets taking a quick 7-3 lead before the Panthers came roaring back with a 12-2 run to close out the match with the 15-9 fifth game victory.
"I hate the hole that we dug and I really don't know why we have to make it so difficult on ourselves," Snake River head coach Shelli VanOrden said. "Shelley are a very good, well coached team though and we feel lucky to get the win."

Lady Broncos blow past Lady Indians

BLACKFOOT - Cassandra Clarke tallied four second half goals and the Blackfoot Lady Broncos opened their conference season with a convincing5-1 victory over visiting Pocatello on Tuesday evening.
"It's big to start conference with a win because now we aren't playing catch up," Blackfoot head coach Scott Stufflebeam said. "The girls did an excellent job and I really don't have anything to complain about."
Facing a stiff Southwesterly wind throughout the first half Blackfoot stood their ground defensively and actually took the1-0 lead when Emma Steidly cleaned up a rebound for a Lady Bronco lead that was never threatened.

Broncos trample Grizzlies 46-7 on opening night

BLACKFOOT — It had been fifty weeks since Blackfoot senior quarterback Alonzo Ramos had stepped foot on a football field following his gruesome knee injury in week three of last years state championship season.
On Friday night, Ramos showed no signs of rust as he accounted for 329 yards of total offense and five Blackfoot touchdowns in a 46-7 season opening drubbing of Skyline.
"All the stress built up over this past year, I just had to get it out," Ramos said. "Tonight, I felt like I had never been hurt. I still need to improve but it was just a great game."

Lady Panthers draw with Lady Cougars

THOMAS - A day removed from a hard fought 2-1 road win at Teton the Snake River Lady Panthers returned home to tangle with a South Fremont squad whom the Lady Panthers had vanquished just a week previous.
Unfortunately, a combination of missed first half opportunities and a building fatigue factor from back-to-back games led to a 0-0 tie by games end.

Grizz top Broncos 3-0

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Bronco volleyball squad opened their home portion of the 2012 schedule on Tuesday evening as they welcomed 5A Skyline to town for a non-conference tilt on the hardwood.
The Broncos and Grizz battled into extra points in the first game before the Grizz emerged triumphant with a 27-25 victory and then cruised home from their by sweeping the Broncos in three games with 25-15 and 15-13 tallies in the second and third games.
