Snake River fares well at major cross country meet

EAGLE — James Withers, the defending Class 3A state champion from Snake River, placed 17th in the elite division of the Bob Firman Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.
Whittier's time over the 5-kilometer course at Eagle Island State Park was 16 minutes 5 seconds.
The meet drew 140 teams from throughout the West including Utah, Oregon, Washington and, of course, Idaho.
"We were very honored to have been invited to participate in it," said Panther coach Mike Kirkham.

Panthers complete season sweep of Russets

THOMAS — County foes collided for the second straight Saturday as the Shelley Russets and the Snake River Panthers butted heads on the soccer pitch. Snake River came into the contest looking for the season sweep of the Russets and after a three goal first half that is exactly what they got for their efforts as they shut out the visiting Russets 3-0.
"We were a little tired but everyone came out and played really hard today," Snake River head coach Trevor Peterson said. "I thought that we came out and made good passes, had some good runs, moved the ball well and finished the game hard."

Lady Russets dump Lady Panthers 3-1

THOMAS — A week removed from a nil-nil tie at Shelley High School, the Snake River Lady Panthers and the Shelley Lady Russets resumed their county rivalry on Saturday as they returned to the pitch looking for a definitive winner.
At the end of the day it was the visiting Shelley squad who stood triumphant as the final whistle blew as they celebrated a solid 3-1 victory.

Broncos remain unbeaten in 34-21 win over Preston

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Broncos built a five touchdown first half advantage and then coasted home for a 34-21 home victory over the Preston Indians on Friday evening.
Blackfoot out gained the Indians 314-73 in a first half that witnessed a dominating first half performance from the defending state champions as the Broncos tallied a pair of touchdowns through the air and a trio of rushing touchdowns for the 34-0 halftime lead.

Panthers down Tigers on homecoming night

THOMAS — Nate Martin knew the key to his success on Friday night.
"The key was the line. They did unreal. They did their jobs and we played good as a team," Martin said after rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns to lead Snake River to a 20-3 non-conference football win over Aberdeen.
"I worked hard this week in practice," Martin said. "I kept my head up and followed my blockers."

Firth Volleyball rolls Ririe

FIRTH — The Firth volleyball squad got 26 assists from Jordyn Park and 16 kills out of Bailey Nelson as they ran over a pesky Ririe squad 25-15, 25-18, 16-25 and 25-14 on Thursday evening.
"Like coach Carter said, the deepest fear is being powerful beyond measure and I believe that we still have a lot left in there and that we will be powerful beyond measure with this team," Firth head coach Carla Reeves said.

Bronco Comeback!

BLACKFOOT - Entering Tuesday evenings non-conference soccer match with Idaho Falls the Blackfoot Bronco soccer squad has not tasted a defeat in nearly a year but for seventy minutes on their home pitch it looked as if that unbeaten streak was coming to an end. That is until the Broncos awakened with a trio of goals from Andy Garcia, including a sweet header in the final seconds of play, as the defending state champions celebrated a thrilling come from behind 4-3 victory.

Jensen hat trick keys Firth win

Jacee Jensen scored three goals, leading Firth to a 3-2 girls' soccer win at South Fremont. The Cougars are now 2-4 on the season and will entertain Shelley at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
