Matsuura, Lau finish second

BOISE – The girls doubles team of Meg Matsuura and Ayla Lau faced a very familiar opponent in Saturday’s 4A state tennis championship match at Boise State University as they tangled with Madison for the fourth time this season.
During the regular season the teams split with one another and Madison was able to topple Blackfoot in the district championship match just prior to the state tournament so a tight match was to be expected.
In the end, Madison was able to hold off Blackfoot for the title, winning a hard fought match in straight sets 5-7, 4-6.

Bingham County crowns two state champs on Friday

BOISE – Day two of the Idaho State Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Friday evening with the 5A and 4A finals being held in the evening at Bronco Stadium on the campus of Boise State University.
Blackfoot had just one athlete competing on Friday night with senior Dakota Mecham toeing the line in the 400 meter finals.
Starting in the lane five, Mecham had her work cut out for her as she tried to topple last years winner Ali Eisenbeiss of Bishop Kelly.

Keller stellar in win over Priest River

ONTARIO, OR. – Snake River senior Keegan Keller took to the bump for the final time in a Panther jersey on Friday afternoon and when the dust had settled, he and the rest of his Snake River teammates were celebrating the Panthers first state baseball tournament win in fifteen years as they eliminated Priest River 6-1.

ONTARIO, OR – After a fifteen year absence at the state baseball tournament the Snake River Panthers returned to the diamond on Thursday afternoon falling 9-3 to Kimberly in the first round of the year end event.
Call in nerves, karma or just bad luck but whatever it was an ill fated 7 run first inning put the Panthers behind the eight ball early and despite some valiant effort; Snake River was unable to overcome the large deficit, falling in a game that was much closer than the final score indicates.

Broncos win academic state title

BLACKFOOT — While the state tennis championship is yet to be decided on the court, Blackfoot’s boys team claimed a state title through its efforts in the classroom.
Coach Brint Jefferis said the team has received notice from the Idaho High School Activities Association that it is the Class 4A Academic State Champion this season.
“It’s amazing,” Jefferis said. “How do they juggle it all? These guys are involved in so many things, from We the People and BPA (Business Professionals Association) and choir, band and student government.”

CHUBBUCK — Like the rising waters of the Snake River the Lady Panther softball team are starting to crest, reaching a high water mark so far on the 2011 season as they advanced to next weeks state tournament with a convincing 9-4 win over Teton on Saturday afternoon.

Lady Cougars capture conference title!

IDAHO FALLS - Hard work and persistence paid off for the Firth High School Lady Cougars as they captured the sixth district 2A softball title with an 8-1 victory over the Lady Huskies of North Fremont.
"All those hours of practice through the toughest weather Idaho could muster really paid off today," said Coach Rachel Olsen. "These girls have fought through the snow and cold and wind and made steady improvement all spring."

MONTPELIER - For the first time in fifteen years, the Snake River Panther baseball team has claimed the District 5 crown and advanced to the Idaho State Championships next week.
Riding the right arm of pitcher Shane Parkinson and the pinch hitting of Travis Robertson and Cash Cardona, the Panthers downed tournament host Bear Lake 3-2 in eight innings to claim the title.
We got a huge effort from Shane today," said Coach James Carter. "We just have some great kids who did just a phenomenal job today to get the win."
