All-Bingham County offensive football team
BLACKFOOT — Merry Christmas everyone, I hope that you all are getting the chance to the enjoy the holidays with friends, family and loved ones.
As you know the sports world never stops, it just slows down a bit during the final week of the year and it allows me the opportunity to catch up on some things from the first half of the school year and take a little time off.
WIth that being said this is the first of two All-Bingham County football teams, today you will see the offense and on Thursday you will see the defense.
As other teams that I have done so far the team was chose by me and no player of the year will be chosen, I could do it but it would not be far to the previous teams.
A first and second team were chosen and I will write a little piece on select players, but the whole teams will be listed.
Without further ado, the All-Bingham County offensive team.
At quarterback the decision was a no brainer. After leading the Shelley Russets to a state championship win over Fruitland and destroying defenses all season long, the Russets senior Kaden Schmitt was the obvious choice.
Schmitt set a school record with 2,394 yards passing with 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions and he finished his Russet career.
But it was not just the arm of Schmitt that was dangerous, it was also his legs. Schmitt did not hesitate to pull the ball down and run if his receivers were covered downfield.
At running back I chose two of the toughest guys in the county to bring down in Firth's Connor Montgomery and Blackfoot's Kylar Haddon.
There may not be two tougher runners in the county than these two.
Every single time I saw Haddon carry the ball for the Broncos this season it took at least two and more often than not three of four defenders to drag him down. And if you gave him a crease he had the ability to leave defenders in the dust on his way to the end zone.
Haddon was a very bright spot on what was a very disappointing season in the minds of the Broncos and their fans.
The senior running back used his size and speed to take the pressure of the Broncons inexperience at quarterback and was the main reason the team won their first game of the season on the road against Hillcrest.
Montgomery was the workhorse for the Cougars run to the state semifinals before losing to West Side.
Montgomery finished the season with over 1,700 yards rushing and 30 touchdowns, pretty astounding numbers for a running back regardless of classification, he also could not be any nicer of a kid.
At receiver I chose a couple of big play recovers in Blackfoot's James Korth and Shelley's Josh Peterson.
Both Korth and Peterson was top targets for their quarterbacks during the season and both have the ability to spread the field at any moment.
Dalton Nelson of Shelley is the tight end and Firth's Dallan Bingham and Coltyr Brewington lead the group of offensive lineman. Shelley's Cole Karker and Matt Wells join Blackfoot's Jacobe Fundum as lineman.
The kicker is the lone representative from Aberdeen in Abraham Torres, Snake River's David Serna is the first team kick returner.
On the second team Firth's Jackson Thompson earned the nod at quarterback, Brad Coombs from Snake River and Randy Bauer from Shelley are the second team running backs.
At wide receiver are Matt Peterson from Blackfoot and Dalton Cate from Firth. Fellow Cougar Zak Johnson is the second team tight end.
The offensive line is highlighted by Snake River's Jace Alvarez and Chandler Ellis.
As a reminder the All-Bingham County defense will run in Wednesday's paper.
