Employees at Blackfoot's Alliance Title branch, have made excellent progress in their "Closing the Hunger Gap" food drive, which started in September. From left are Ron Romrell, Christa Goodwin, Joy Denning, Michelle Hames, Mandy Carr, Teresa Rigby and Misty Myler.
It's a startling statistic that one in six Americans does not have enough access to food. Idaho-based- Alliance Title Co. is making a company-wide effort to make a difference with its "Closing the Hunger Gap" campaign, and Blackfoot's branch is more than happy to help out.
Ron Romrell, vice president and general manager of the local office, said, "As a company, we see a dramatic need to supply food to the food banks and help keep people fed."
Mandy Carr, Alliance's food drive coordinator for Blackfoot, said they are accepting non-perishable food items and cash donations at the Blackfoot office, at 246 W. Pacific, now through Nov. 30. She went on, "For every residential or commercial closing done by our office in November, Alliance will make a $25 donation to the cause as well."
"Our branch has chosen to donate all of the food (and cash donations) collected to Blackfoot's SEICAA [South East Idaho Community Action Agency] office," Carr said. "The SEICCA office here has a large food pantry that helps people throughout Bingham County get things to eat."
All 33 Alliance branches (in 27 counties) throughout Idaho, Washington, Montana and Wyoming will be accepting non-perishable food items and cash donations for the drive.
Romrell and Carr say that there is some friendly competition among the other branches for who can collect the most donations.
"There's some pizza parties and some serious bragging rights on the line," Carr commented. "This makes it fun for everyone."
Romrell added, "A lot of local businesses have gotten involved, and as Alliance associates, we think this is such a neat thing to do because of how broad our footprint is throughout the region."
This is the first year Alliance has held the "Closing the Hunger Gap" campaign and there is word that it may become an annual event.
