Argh! Pirates make Cougars walk the plank

FIRTH — Sometimes it's hard to imagine the future when the present is so difficult. On Wednesday evening the Firth volleyball team suffered a 3 set loss to West Side but in the end steady improvement of the predominantly underclassmen laden roster still shined through.
"I really think that these girls will be a force," Firth head coach Carla Reeves said. "They are so young but for the next couple of years they will be dominant but it is hard for the seniors this year."
The pair of seniors on this years squad continued their strong play on Wednesday evening with both Emily Fielding and Kelsie Oliver earning 7 digs apiece, a stat that coach Reeves was very pleased with.
"On the defensive end we set a team goal to double our digs from the game previous and it showed tonight because the girls were pursuing the ball better and not a lot hit the floor clean."
Shannon Spencer also had a nice night in the dig department with 5 to go along with her 7 assists.
"I was impressed with a pair of freshmen tonight," Coach Reeves said. "Shelby Pfeifer was 4 for 8 hitting for 50% which is good for a freshman she just didn't get a lot of opportunities and Britton Bean who isn't very big but the minute she got on the floor she slowed their outside game down and showed a lot of poise out there for a freshman."
Firth plays again tonight this time on the road at Butte County against a tough Pirate squad beginning at 7 P.M.
