Beth Marion White, 93
Beth Marion White, 93, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at her home.
Beth was born at home on the family farm five miles southeast of Idaho Falls on Feb. 28, 1917, to Marcia Elizabeth Asper Twichel and Alvin Lester Twichel. She attended schools in the Idaho Falls School District and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1935, going on to college at Utah State University (then Agricultural College), graduating in 1938.
Beth began teaching in Cleveland (Emery County, Utah) where she met Lavar White. They were married three years later. Beth continued teaching while Lavar was away at war. She received her bachelor’s degree and attended classes whenever possible and gained credits equal to a master’s degree.
After Lavar returned from World War II in 1946 they moved to Blackfoot and bought a farm. Together they had six daughters, Marcia, Marjorie, Virginia, Marian, Faye and Nancy.
Beth taught school for 36 years in Utah and Idaho, 28 of those years in Blackfoot. During her career, she taught students in all of the eight grades. She retired in 1981. Beth and Lavar traveled all 50 states, across Canada and as far south as Acapulco, Mexico. In her free time, Beth enjoyed raising flowers and a garden, singing, dancing, cooking and traveling.
Beth is survived by her husband, Emery Lavar White of Blackfoot; daughters, Marcia Hernandez of Blackfoot; Marjorie (Roger) Hansen of Salt Lake City, Utah; Virginia (Steve) Hildreth of Avon Park, Fla.; Marian (Doug) Moser of Idaho Falls and Faye (Gary) Heiser of Rio Rico, Ariz.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nancy Beth White; brother, Von Twichel; and sisters, Marcia Peterson, Juanita Tracy and Jeanette Wilkenson.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
Family will meet with friends and relatives from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot.
