Members of the City Council approved Blackfoot's budget for final publication on Tuesday. The budget is $15,026,087 for the 12-month period ending Sept. 30, 2013.
Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue said that the city's revenues come from taxes, fees (garbage, water, sewer) grants and some miscellaneous revenue such as from the Blackfoot Municipal Swimming Pool, park reservation fees and airport fuel taxes (which will be new revenue this year).
"There are two parts to the budget," Virtue explained. "There's the general fund which includes police, fire, planning and public works and the enterprise fund which encompasses sanitation, water, sewer...things that recovered through city fees."
The approved general budget totaled $5,365,356. Virtue estimated that about 16 percent of the budget comes from tax revenue.
The approved city budget will be published in detail on Friday and will be available at city hall for the public to review.
In an added agenda item, the city council also approved the use of $80,000 in grant money to further research the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The next regularly scheduled city council meeting will be on Sept. 4.
