BLACKFOOT â€” In what turned out to be an upbeat and positive meeting over a controversial matter, Blackfoot School District officials unanimously moved to contract out the district's custodial services to "GCA Services Group" out of Cleveland, Ohio at Thursday's board meeting.
While the official contract with the company will start July 1, 2014, GCA officials, who were in Blackfoot for the meeting, say the transition will "start immediately."
District officials have been reviewing bids for the services the past two months, in hope of saving the district some money due to a severe budget shortfall. The district's financial adviser, Brian Kress, said that three companies submitted proposals, but that GCA was the winner.
Kress, who worked with a committee of seven in the selection process, said that the decision was an "emotional one" and that the "livelihoods, of the current employees, their families and their futures - were taken to heart."
