BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot tennis team welcomed conference rival Hillcrest to town on Tuesday for a blustery day on the courts that witnessed a split between the two teams. In the girls match up, Blackfoot got a huge 4-2 win over the Knights while in the boys side of the ledger, Hillcrest returned the favor for a 4-2 defeat of the Broncos.
On the boys side of the tally sheet Blackfoot picked up their points with a trio of wins. Tanner “Smoke” Norton and Jacob Harris continued their strong freshman campaign with a 6-0, 6-4 pasting in boys second doubles while Tyler Cannon and Mark Hudson each picked up half a point with wins in first and second mixed doubles. Cannon teamed up with Lindsey Loveland for a thrilling 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win while Hudson and Camille Norton showed a ton of heart with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory.
“Mixed doubles were the matches to watch today,” Blackfoot head coach Brint Jefferis said. “They both lost their opening sets but came back to win. They did unbelievable today and this should give our first mixed team the top seed at districts.”
In the girls team victory, Blackfoot got wins from Ashley Porter and Christy Hudson in first and second singles while the first doubles tandem of Meg Matsuura and Ayla Lou continued their undefeated season with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
“Ashley was outstanding in first singles and continuos to get better every match,” coach Jefferis said. “The win that took us over the top for the win was Christy’s though. Christy came up with a great win to give the girls team the overall win and I just couldn’t be happier with her performance.”
