City in good shape financially
BLACKFOOT — In addressing business and community leaders at the Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce President's Luncheon Wednesday, Mayor Mike Virtue said he believes the city is in a good position for economic recovery.
Through frugal budgets and smart decisions, Virtue said the city is in excellent financial shape and that 2012 should be another good year.
"I think we're in a positive position for when the economic recovery happens," Virtue said.
The city has been working with various economic development agencies, and the addition of new businesses like Tommy Vaughn's Grill, El Centenario and Krehbiel's Barn Events Center have been positive signs of growth, Virtue said.
Speaking about the various projects completed last year, Virtue noted the water storage tank, the sidewalk from Mountain View Middle School to East Alice Street and work at Jensen Grove and Veteran's Park.
He also talked of upcoming projects to occur this year, including work on Cedar Street and the planned resurfacing of East Airport Road from Highland Drive to Teeples Drive. That state project, will widen the road to three lanes and include sidewalks.
In closing, Virtue said there are numerous opportunities for businesses and individuals to get involved in the community and urged participation in one of the various civic organizations or volunteer opportunities.
"The success of our community depends on each one of us," Virtue said.
