The Morning News – Harpist Leslie Mielke and flutist Robert Cannon will be featured in a special number at the Blackfoot High School Christmas Concert tonight. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center. It is free and open to the public.

BLACKFOOT – The sounds and joy of the season will fill the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center tonight at the Blackfoot High School Christmas concert. This year's concert plan to offer more than customary, beautiful holiday music from the bands and choirs.
Band Director Jan Eddington is particularly excited about a piece that will be played by the Symphonic Band. The challenging piece by Ralph Vaughan Williams will feature guest harpist Leslie Mielke and flutist Robert Cannon, a senior at BHS.
"This is very famous orchestra literature," said Eddington. "We are so pleased to have Leslie and Bobby perform it with us. They are both wonderful musicians."
The evening will also include special presentations to Susan Mann and Allen Tripp, both of whom are being inducted into the Idaho Music Educators Association Hall of Fame.
They will be commended for "a lifetime of dedicated service to the youth of Idaho and for using music to improve the lives of their many students". Mann retired from BHS in 2007. She is now the BPAC programming director. Tripp also retired from BHS in 2007 and is the BPAC manager. Both were instrumental in the building and development of the BPAC.
Tonight's concert will include performances from Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, A Cappella Choir, Concert Choir and the middle school choirs. The public is invited to the concert, which begins at 7 p.m.
