It may not be the iconic yellow taxi seen on the streets of New York City, but it is the one and only taxi service in Blackfoot and taxi driver Rob Beebe said his new business, B-B Taxi, is filling a need in the community and that his gray '92 Honda Accord works just fine as a taxi cab.
Beebe, a Blackfoot native who was born in the original Colonial Inn, definitely knows his way around the area and has plenty of experience behind the wheel as he worked as a long-haul truck driver for 35 years and drove for Country Coach for nearly five years.
"I am the only licensed taxi service in the city of Blackfoot - one car, one driver" Beebe remarked. "I have found that my business really helps people in all kinds of different situations."
Beebe said he will make taxi runs all around East Idaho and will even go as far as Boise and Salt Lake. He also calls himself a "designated driver," saying he will come and pick up people who have had too much to drink after the bars close on the weekends and get their vehicles home as well.
"I will run errands, pick up groceries and I'm looking forward to helping people get around Blackfoot during fair week," he added.
Beebe will accept cab calls Monday thru Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and up to 1:30 a.m. on the weekends. He said he will drive on Sundays if someone is in an emergency situation.
Beebe said he anticipates getting a little busier during the winter months because people don't like driving in the cold and on slick roads.
"I have lots of experience driving on slick roads and I know a lot of people don't like to do it," he said.
Beebe said word of mouth and advertising in the local newspaper has helped his business grow and that he has also embraced the Internet age.
Grinning, he said, "I don't know too much about computers but if you Google 'Blackfoot taxi,' you will find me! I am prompt, courteous and I will get you where you need to go."
The phone number for B-B Taxi service is 208-201-4535.
