Blackfoot remains unbeaten in 1-0 win over Century

September 12, 2012

Andy Garcia gains control of the ball during second half action at Blackfoot High School on Thursday.

BLACKFOOT - A week removed from their last contest the Blackfoot Broncos welcomed Century to town for a big conference match between a pair of upper echelon teams from Southeastern Idaho.
At the end of a blustery afternoon on the pitch the Bronco's remained unblemished as they walked away with a 1-0 victory.
"The wind played a part today. It made it difficult to control the ball the way that we would have liked," Blackfoot head coach Liam Pope said. "I think that the problem for us today was even though we had a lot of possession we didn't do anything with it. We just seemed a little disjointed."

Disjointed or not the Broncos had plenty of scoring chances on the afternoon as they outshot the Diamondbacks 16-4 but on more than one occasion the ball found iron in the form of post or cross bar. Blackfoot did solve the riddle however when the Diamondback keeper misplayed a lobbed in shot allowing Alberto Tafoya to pound home the rebound for the eventual game winner four minutes into the second half.
Meanwhile, the Blackfoot defense was stifling with the only true scoring threat by Century being thwarted by a diving Oziel Oseguera midway through the second half.
"I was pleased from top to bottom with the defense today," Coach Pope said. "From our forwards to the back line we defended the field really well."
With the win Blackfoot improves to 6-0-1, 2-0 on the season and they will be in action next on Saturday when they host Minico in a non-conference tilt at 11 a.m.
"Like I told the boys it's a mark of a good team when you can come out of an ugly game like today and scrape out a win," Coach Pope said. "Of course, we're always happy with a win."
