BLACKFOOT— Wednesday evening was the Blackfoot School District's annual meeting to kick off the start of a new school year. The boardroom was full of administration and staff from various Blackfoot school's along with Mayor Paul Loomis whom sat in the audience.
Amongst various housekeeping topics such as approval of prior board meeting minutes, personal items and payments made in July, several important items were addressed, some were voted on by the end of the evening, some were tabled for moratorium at later board meetings.
The first item of the night was broached when Superintendent Brian Kress brought to the board the suggestion that the board implement guidelines for when a mandatory districtwide employee meeting be allowed to be made, currently this is at the discretion of the superintendent.
Kress brought the suggestion to the board after he was questioned about the timeliness and effectiveness of such a meeting he required recently.
Trustee Carlos Mercado said, "As long as I am in in the loop, just with a quick email or text, I am fine with the superintendent continuing to make those decisions."
