BOISE — A Blackfoot teen died Sunday after she was injured in a serious accident Saturday south of Smith's Ferry.
Sarah C. Asmus, 18, of Blackfoot, was a passenger in a 2006 Toyota Camry driven by Katherine L. Bulcher, 19, of Hansen. The vehicle was traveling south on State Highway 55 at 11:06 a.m. Saturday on snow and slush covered roads, according to the Idaho State Police. Bulcher lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sweeping right curve. Bulcher's vehicle started to fishtail and crossed the center line into the northbound lane of travel. Vernon D. Chitwood, 62, of Boise, was traveling north in a 2003 Ford F350 pickup and was unable to avoid the collision with Bulcher's vehicle, ISP said.
Occupants in both vehicles were taken by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Asmus passed away Sunday from her injuries.
It appears seat belts were worn by all occupants and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
