Body shop owner continues to grow lifelong business

March 9, 2014

Morning News-Lisa Lete It's Grease Lightning! What kind of looks like the Grease Lightning scene from the musical Grease, is just auto detailers (from left) Angel Echeverria, Cody Martin and Luke Wheeler enjoying a day's work at Powell's Body Shop & Towing. Business owner Dustin Powell put the finishing touches on the new auto detail center about a month ago and is hosting a grand opening this month to show off the new facility.

BLACKFOOT — Dustin Powell started working at his father Jim's auto body shop "Powell's Body Shop" on Grant Street in Blackfoot back in the 1970's when he was just 10 years old. He has never left the family business, and has gone on to grow it into one of the largest facility's of its kind in the state.
Dustin, whose passion for the business is evident to this day, said, "I learned this business from the ground up. I was working as a full-time painter when I was a senior in high school. I remember missing school a lot."
Dustin and his brother Jim Powell Jr. bought the business from their parents in 2004, moving it to its current location on W. Highway 39 in Blackfoot and renaming the business "Powell's Body Shop & Towing." An extensive remodel was done to the small shop that existed on the eight acres of land, where the business has flourished and continues to grow.
Most recently, Dustin has added a four-bay detail shop to compliment the auto body business, completing it one month ago.
