Broncos beat Panthers 8-5

RIVERSIDE — Once again the Snake River Panthers and the Blackfoot Broncos collided on the softball diamond as the Panthers took to their home field looking for a season sweep over the Broncos.
Blackfoot was having none of that on Tuesday evening as they turned the tables on their earlier season loss to the Panthers as they pounded out 13 hits in an 8-5 road victory.
"This was big for us," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "All week long we have come out and practiced with a ton of confidence and today they brought that confidence to the field. Our seniors came out strong and ready to play."

Senior Brielle Brower set the tone early for the Broncos as she led off the contest with a sharp single to left. One batter later Mattison Chavez ripped the first of her two doubles on the afternoon which put runners at second and third with just one out.
Senior Ally Smith then ripped a shot into the hole between third and short which was fielded but a hurried throw led to an error and both Brower and Chavez scoring on the play.
"We made a couple of costly errors which helped them out today," Snake River head coach Kay Martin said. "You have to hand it to Blackfoot though, they hit the ball hard and made a few more plays than we did. One thing is for sure. Against a team as good as Blackfoot you just can't afford to give up any runs to them."
Blackfoot took advantage of three more Panther errors in the top of the third inning as they scored 3 runs on 4 hits in the uprising. Smith provided the big stick in the inning as she roped a double and later scored on an RBI single by Jaime Horsley.
Snake River are a good team as well though and they showed their collective metal in the home half of the third inning with a 4 run frame which brought the score to 5-4 Blackfoot. Cassie Albertson had a 2RBI single in the inning and Raegan Martin thrilled the home crowd with a double to left center field.
Blackfoot put the kibosh on the Panther comeback attempt with a three run fourth inning as Blackfoot got four consecutive base hits to open the frame. Karissa Jensen opened with a single which was followed by a Brower single. Jessica Capson picked up an RBI with her single which was followed by an RBI single by Chavez which she tried to stretch into a double but a bang-bang play at the bag had her out by an eyelash.
"We're coming together as a team," Coach Chavez said. "Brielle is just so solid at the plate. She steps to the plate ready to attack the ball and Ally is just so solid in center field for us. I think that the most impressive thing that I am seeing is that they are starting to know what to do without me having to tell them what to do."
Snake River were able to pick up one more run with a two out rally in the bottom of the fourth inning as a Blackfoot fielding miscue allowed Katie Ogden to reach first. back-to-back singles by Chelsey and Macy Martin followed making the score 8-5, a tally that stood until the final out.
Blackfoot (3-1, 2-0) will be off through Spring break and will return to the diamond on April 10 when they travel to Shelley for a conference double header with the Russets.
Snake River (5-2) will hit the road today for a show down at Soda Springs with first pitch scheduled for 4 P.M.
"This will be our first real road trip of the season and the girls have a lot of excitement for it," Coach Martin said. "Soda beat Marsh Valley last week so they are an improving team so we certainly won't be overlooking them."
