Broncos bounce back with road win

September 18, 2010

Luis Oseguera kicks a 37-yard field goal at Madison on Friday night.

REXBURG - The Blackfoot Broncos travelled north to Rexburg to take on the Madison for the Bobcats homecoming game and came away with a 31-8 victory.
The Broncos took advantage of some Bobcat miscues, including hitting a seam pass on the second play of the game, good for a 68 yard pass and catch play for the game's opening score.
"Pilster really made some nice throws tonight," said Coach Stan Buck. "The first pass to (Beau) Hoskins really set the tone for the game tonight."
The Broncos took the opening kickoff, completed a pass on the first play of the game for no gain. Trae Pilster then hit a streaking Beau Hoskins for 68 yards and the score, giving the Broncos a 7-0 lead.
The rest of the first half was a combination of the two teams struggling for field position and neither being very successful at gaining control of the contest.
The Bobcats were able to pick up first downs, but each time they crossed midfield, the Broncos defense stiffened and forced either a punt or a turnover.
The Broncos on the other hand struggled with penalties throughout the first half, picking up a half dozen in the first quarter alone.
Following a missed field goal midway through the second quarter, kicker Luis Oseguera was given a second chance with just seconds remaining in the half.
"I missed the first try because I didn't keep my head down on target," said Oseguera. "I made sure that I concentrated and kept my form on the second try and when I looked up, I saw the ball going through the uprights."
The field goal, as time was running out in the first half, gave the Broncos a 10-0 lead and a huge momentum lift going into the intermission.
