Broncos complete season sweep of Panthers

THOMAS — The Blackfoot Broncos and the Snake River Panthers locked horns for the final time in 2012 as the two squads met in front of a packed house at Snake River High School with Blackfoot looking for the season sweep of the season while Snake River were looking to hold home court.
Alonzo Ramos poured in 20 points and McKye Watt added 16 as the Broncos completed the sweep with a convincing 57-40 victory in a game that many expected to be much closer.
"I think that the biggest key was the fact that we matched and then went above their physicality," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "It was a terrific Christmas present that's for sure."
Early on it looked as if Snake River were poised for the big win as they broke open a 10-10 first quarter tie with a 9-0 run to open second quarter play. Cole Rushton, who finished the evening with 12 points for the Panthers, hit the big shot in the run when he banked home a three pointer from the top of the circle for a 19-10 Panther lead with just over four minutes till the half.
The home irons went cold from then however and Blackfoot started heating up and as Alonzo Ramos drained a three point basket at the buzzer, Blackfoot had outscored the Panthers 16-3 for a 26-22 lead heading to the locker room.
"We just had lots and lots of missed shots," Snake River head coach Bob Coombs said. "We had good looks at the rim but we have to hit those easy shots. You have to hand it to Blackfoot though, they took it to us and we will need to learn from this and move on."
Third quarter action was all about McKye Watt as the junior drilled four three point baskets in the frame to help push the lead out to 43-29.
"It's nice to have a shooter," Coach Hale said. "Once we broke the game open the kids were able to relax. I also think that one of the keys in the second half was our defensive pressure and we rebounded better than the last time we played them."
Blackfoot enters the break at 3-5, 0-2 while Snake River is 3-3.
