Broncos gallop to 49-21 win in River Rivarly game

September 17, 2011

Blackfoot defenders and Snake River offensive players go up for a pass in the first quarter of the River Rivalry Game on Friday night.

BLACKFOOT — The return of the River Rivalry game is in the books as the Blackfoot Broncos posted a 49-21 victory over the visiting Snake River Panthers on Friday night.
The game was filled with big plays as the two teams combined for nearly 700 yards of offense and a pair of kick off returns for scores before a capacity crowd.
"We anticipated that there would be some big plays," Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck said. "We have some play makers and they have some play makers and it's exciting for the kids and exciting for the fans and it's fun to watch."
Blackfoot got the first big play of the night as Trae Pilster connected with Alonzo Ramos on a 52-yard touchdown pass on the second offensive play from scrimmage for the Broncos and after a Luis Oseguera kick, the home team led 7-0.
Snake River answered on the last play of the first quarter as Bret Parkinson picked off a Pilster pass on his own fifteen yard line. Parkinson then raced down the sideline for the 85-yard touchdown and after a Cooper Peterson kick the score stood at 7-7.
"We knew that Blackfoot was going to be explosive," Snake River head coach Jeff Dalley said. "They're big and physical and we were hoping to slow them down and let our big play kids make some plays for us."
The tie ball game lasted exactly fourteen seconds as Ramos scored his second touchdown of the game when he returned the kick off 95-yards for the score.
Pilster then took over as he called his own number for a 39-yard touchdown scamper and then a 22-yard touchdown strike to Colby Pearson and as the teams headed to the locker room, Blackfoot led 28-7.
Pilster finished the evening accounting for five touchdowns as he threw a trio of scores while passing for 166 yards and then rushed for a pair of scores as he finished with 106 yards rushing.
"It's important to have that balance, to be able to run it and pass it unless your a superpower or something like that," Coach Buck said. "We had a few miscues on our offensive front but we were able to pass the ball well which opened up some opportunities in the running game."
The third quarter of play was relatively calm as Blackfoot's Carlton Moore got the lone score in the quarter, a 46-yard scamper to pay dirt which opened up a commanding 35-7 lead.
The fourth quarter was a bit of a barn burner however as the teams combined for four touchdowns in the frame, including a 90-yard kick off return for a score by Snake River's Andres Garza.
"We moved the ball pretty well on offense. Blackfoot just made a few more plays on defense than we did," Coach Dalley said. "They're a good team. They have some electric players and I take my hat off to Coach Buck and his team."
Both teams will return home next Friday as Blackfoot (3-0) will open conference play with the Buck Bowl as Madison comes to call.
Meanwhile, Snake River (2-2) will host Bingham County neighbor Aberdeen. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 P.M.
