TWIN FALLS — The Blackfoot Bronco American Legion team made their way back into the Twin Falls Wood Bat Tournament championship game for the fourth consecutive season and on Saturday Blackfoot laid the wood to Upper Valley as they won their third tournament in those four tries with an 8-6 victory.
"It was an even game," Blackfoot head coach Jeff Katseanes said. "Upper Valley are legit. They were in the state tournament during the high school season so they're a very good team."
Blackfoot drew first blood with a four run first inning. Russell Osborn, Cole Mansanarez and Colby Pearson each walked with one out to load the bases with Osborn coming home with the first run courtesy of an RBI single by Cody Evans. Jaron Katseanes followed with a 2RBI single to plate Mansanarez and Pearson and then Evans came scampering home on a passed ball for the early 4-0 lead.
"We came out with confidence which was a big key," Coach Katseanes said. "It was a great feeling. To come out and get some runs early, especially while we were dealing with the tough weather."
The biggest benefactor for the early run support was Colby Pearson who eventually worked a complete game for the victory.
In the win, Pearson scattered 6 hits, struck out 11 while throwing 125 pitches.
"Colby threw his guts out," Coach Katseanes said. "They were starting to get to him a little in the sixth inning and I went out to the mound and asked him how his arm felt. He said terrible but I'm not coming out. That just shows the type of competitor that Colby is."
With the win Blackfoot improves their season record to a very impressive 9-1. Blackfoot will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Burley for a double header beginning at 5 P.M.
"Burley will be a tough pair of games," Coach Katseanes said. "We will need to come out confident and focused."
