Broncos oh, so close in 4-3 eighth inning loss to Bees

May 7, 2012

Colby Pearson fires a pitch during Blackfoots extra inning loss to Bonneville on Monday.

IDAHO FALLS — The Blackfoot Broncos took the top seeded Bonneville Bees as far as the Bees could stretch on Monday afternoon but in the end, the Broncos came up just short as they fell 4-3 in eight innings to the heavily favored Bees.
“I think that they did great today. We took them into extra innings,” Blackfoot’s head coach Kenny Dahle said, “ I am proud of how they played. We haven’t been in a game like this all season.”

The Bees took a quick 2-0 lead on the Broncos but starting pitcher, Colby Pearson settled down after that as he kept the Bee hitters off balance for the remainder of the game, finishing the day with 7+ innings pitched while striking out 8 in the hard luck loss.
“Colby threw his guts out today. That is all you can ask for from your starting pitcher,” Coach Dahle said.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Broncos baseball team gained three runs to tie the game at 3-3, a score that stood until a lone run in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Bees to the win.
Cole Mansanerez had a big hit in the inning with a 2RBI single while Zach Later and Pearson each finished the day with a pair of hits for their efforts.
The Broncos will play again on Wednesday at Melaleuca stadium in a loser out contest at 2 P.M.
“We still have a chance to make it to state,” Coach Dahle said. “Like I told the boys, they have to keep their heads up. We battle one of the tough teams and we had some key hits. The loss hurts but we just have to learn from it.”
