BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot American Legion baseball team opened the 2014 season with a bang on Monday pounding out 31 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Idaho Falls Rangers at Blackfoot High School.
The boys of summer wasted little time showing that a run to a state 'A' title is the teams goal for this season.
The Broncos took game one 15-5 in five innings and took game two 16-6 in five innings behind a pair of eight-run innings.
After getting retired in order in the opening inning of game one, Blackfoot sent 10 batters to the plate in inning number two scoring five runs on just two hits and an error to get an early 5-0 lead. Brady Pearson's two-RBI single was the innings big blow for the Broncos.
The Broncos blew the game open in the fourth when they plated eight runs on 10 hits. Blackfoot got six RBI hits in the inning including a single and double from Dallin Fairchild.
Jode Stephenson ended the game for the Broncos in the bottom of the fifth with his game ending RBI single.
Game two started the same way for the Broncos offense as the team was set down in order in the opening inning.
But in the bottom of the second the Broncos scored eight runs on just one hit as Idaho Falls pitching walked six hitters, hit another and gave up a three-run home run to Fairchild.
