Buford Max Cornelison, 90, of Blackfoot died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at his home from causes incident to age.
He was born Jan.19, 1922 at Chesterfield to Forest Lee and Etta Eldora VunCannon Cornelison. Buford's family spent their winters in Chesterfield and summers in Rocky Canyon where his parents homesteaded a valley north of Chesterfield and east of Mt. Putnam. He attended school in Chesterfield and graduated from North Gem High School in 1940.
In the fall of 1944 when he was 22 years old, Buford was called to serve his country. He was enlisted in the Army and sent to the Philippines. Later, he was transferred to Japan and discharged from the Air Force.
He married Phyllis Miriam Tripp on Dec. 22, 1949 in Pocatello. They solemnized their marriage April 16, 1954 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. They were blessed with two sons, Bobby Max and Von T.
Buford was always committed to work, whether it was breaking horses as a young man, "learning a lot" with 200 head of weiner pigs, or helping neighbors lambing out their sheep during Chesterfield winters. This work ethic continued as he worked for Idaho Potato Starch, later Nonpareil. He and Phyllis were truly happiest when they were working together on their dairy farm in Rose with their family.
He was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in Scouting, Elders Quorum, and 8 years in the Rose Ward bishopric. Phyllis passed away in 1990 and Buford married Jean Marie Marlow Howell in 1991. She later passed away in 2009.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of Access Home Health and Hospice, particularly Chantelle, DeeDie, and Zach.
Buford is survived by his two sons, Bob M. (Brenda) Cornelison of Pocatello and Von T (Linda) Cornelison of Blackfoot. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Scott (Angie) Cornelison, Rachelle (Jason) Jones, David Cornelison, Kimberly (Scott) Romriell, Jared (Michelle) Cornelison; as well as Mark (Dorese) Cornelison and Clay Cornelison and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Loretta Johnson of West Valley City, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Phyllis and Marie, and five brothers: Elton, Lois, Frank, Hurdis, Ellis and one sister Wincey Lucile.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Blackfoot Idaho Stake Center, 1650 Highland Drive with Bishop Dale Cunningham officiating.
