Bus accident a result of fatal medical condition
BLACKFOOT — A long-time school bus driver suffered a fatal medical condition Monday afternoon, causing her to lose control of the bus she was driving and strike a power pole.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Jewel and Camas streets approximately 2:04 p.m. Joann Jensen, 64, of Blackfoot, was driving the Teton Stage Lines bus with 34 students from Stalker Elementary School. She was traveling westbound on Jewel Street when police say she likely suffered a medical condition, causing her to lose control of the bus.
Jensen was transported to Bingham Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where she was pronounced dead.
Blackfoot School District Superintendent Scott Crane arrived on scene after the accident. He said all the students were checked and none were injured in the accident.
Donavan Harrington, owner of Teton Stage Lines, said Jensen drove the same route for 13 years. Two years ago she gave up a mid-day kindergarten route so she would be the only driver the kids on the bus knew.
"I felt terrible when I heard about (the accident). She was a very, very dedicated employee," Harrington said.
