Butch Hulse wins Blackfoot Council seat

December 7, 2011

BLACKFOOT — Butch Hulse won the runoff election Tuesday for seat 4 on the Blackfoot City Council by a margin of 122 votes.
Hulse defeated Clair L. Broadhead with a vote of 450-328 as he garnered 57.8 percent of the vote and won the majority at each polling place.
A total of 778 voters headed to the polls in the runoff election and turnout was similar to the November election when 781 total people cast their vote for seat 4.
“I appreciate everyone that voted,” Hulse said after the election. “I’m really excited.”
Broadhead had no comment after the election results were finalized.
Results were close in Precinct 4 at Stalker Elementary where Hulse edged Broadhead 58-56 and in Precinct 5 at Ridge Crest Elementary with a vote of 84-81. In Precincts 1, 2 & 3 at Mountain View Middle School Hulse defeated Broadhead 205-132 and in Precinct 6 at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center Hulse led 103-59.
In the Nov. 8 election Hulse received 49.7 percent and Broadhead received 37.4 percent of the vote in the three-way race with Randy Herbert. City ordinance currently requires that both the mayor and city council candidates must receive a majority vote to be elected.
The council plans to reconsider that ordinance at its Dec. 20 meeting.
