Century cruises to 65-44 win over Blackfoot

January 15, 2014

Blackfoot’s Harry Hoskins dribbles past Century’s Logan Fackrell during the first half of their game at Blackfoot High School Tuesday night.

BLACKFOOT — After falling behind by as many as 19 points on two different occasions Tuesday night against district rival Century, the Blackfoot Broncos could have easily rolled over.
Instead the Broncos chipped away at the Diamondbacks lead cutting to 12 with seven minutes remaining in the game.
But on four consecutive possessions the Broncos failed to capitalize on their opportunities as Century pulled away earning a 65-44 win at Blackfoot High School.

"As bad as we played we had a chance to pull it to within six four times," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "We had four possessions where we had decent shots, we just did not hit them, it is disheartening because I don't think they realized how close they were. I thought there was ac chance this game could go down to the wire."
But the Diamondbacks depth was too much as Century used a 16-5 run over the final six minutes to earn the win.
The Broncos problem started in the first quarter when Century junior guard and Division I recruit Malek Harwell came out and score eight of the D-backs first 11 points with a pair of threes and a slam dunk off of a Blackfoot turnover.
Blackfoot trailed 17-7 after one quarter.
"We can not fall down 10 points right from the start," Hale said. "Because then we have to spend so much energy trying to come back it is tough to overcome."
Kaden Loveland did his best to get the Broncos in the game by scoring 10 of his team-high 14 points in the second quarter.
Despite Loveland's effort, the Broncos struggled with the D-backs 6-10 center Damon Leach and Harwell.
Harwell scored a game-high 15 and Leach added 13.
Blackfoot (3-8, 1-3 4A District 5/6) travel to Preston on Friday.
