Following a short chase on Saturday, Blackfoot Police arrested a 19-year-old man on a variety of charges.
Aldeshon S. Nappo was charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, Felony Eluding of a Peace Officer, two counts of Injury to a Child, Failure to Purchase a Driver's License and on a warrant out of Bannock County.
According to a news release, the pursuit lasted approximately one minute. When an officer attempted to make a routine traffic stop, the suspect pulled into a parking lot, then tried to maneuver out of the lot in an effort to avoid the officer.
The suspect then entered an alleyway and continued to speed away. He went through a stop sign, nearly causing a wreck with a private vehicle.
After missing that vehicle, the suspect continued to increase his speed and swerved between two vehicles.
At that point officers began to back off their pursuit for safety concerns. As they did so the suspect approached an overpass and lost control, crashing into a cement embankment.
Five occupants of the suspect vehicle, including three adults and two children, ages 5 and 4, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. After Nappo was released from the hospital, he was taken to the Bingham County Jail.
No further information on the incident will be available until Tuesday because of the President's Day holiday.
